Christy Martinez-Garcia was born and raised in Lubbock. She attended Lubbock High School, Lamar University, and completed her degree at Texas Tech University. After college, Martinez-Garcia worked for the Lubbock city government and then for the National Council of La Raza in Washington D.C. Upon her return to Lubbock, Martinez-Garcia sought to counter the local media narrative that mostly only depicted Hispanics as criminals or only immigrants. Thus, she founded the magazine, Latino Lubbock. She also ran for a position in the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees. Martinez-Garcia has participated in numerous community organizations and was responsible for the naming of Cesar Chavez street in Lubbock as well as having a historical marker for a what once a migrant labor camp.

During his 44 year career, Daniel Noyola worked as an educator, coach and administrator for the Corpus Christi and West Oso independent school districts. Noyola spent 26 years of his career at West Oso ISD and 18 years at Corpus Christi ISD. Noyola grew up in West Oso's Molina neighborhood.

Ofelia Vasquez-Philo was born December 28, 1932 in Seguin, Texas, and was the oldest of nine children. She grew up on Freeman Ranch, in Wimberley, Tx., where her father was the ranch foreman. She married Joe Vasquez, Jr. in 1950 and they raised 7 children in San Marcos. After Joe's death in 1986, she married Harry Philo. Ofelia worked part-time in 1966 at the Office of Community Action. In 1970, she became executive director, a position she would hold until her retirement in 1993. During this period, she obtained her GED certificate, and her bachelor's degree from Antioch University, Austin campus in 1978. She was the first Latina to serve on the San Marcos Independent School Board from 1969-1971. She was a charter member of the San Marcos Heritage Foundation, and a member of the Hays County Historical Commission, the San Marcos League of Women Voters, the Hijas de Maria, the Archicofradia of St. John's Catholic Church, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Finance Council and the Bereavement Ministry of St John's Catholic Church. Nancy Vera received her degrees from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, including her Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership. Vera specializes in working with at-risk students who are in danger of dropping out and live in poverty. Vera is President of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council No. 4444. She pioneered “Operation Right Track” a public campaign to raise awareness about gang violence, drug, and alcohol abuse. In her interview, she discussed her career as a union organizer/AFT president of Corpus Christi.

Arnold Gonzales is an educator, former state legislator, assistant state land commissioner, Corpus Christi city councilman, and Navy veteran. He graduated from Ray High School and earned a degree in art from Texas A&M Kingsville and taught art in middle school. He won a Mott Fellowship and earned a Masters' and PhD from the University of Michigan. In his interview, he talked quite a bit about his history as a politician in Corpus Christi.
