Recording of Stefan Klaverdal's prayer of a king. This is a work for saxophone and computer that was extracted from the suite "On Being". It is thematically derived from the classical play of Hamlet, and was originally composed to a dance performance on the play. The notation is quite open, allowing the players to freely choose several aspects of interpretation, such as some rhythms, tempo, etc. for both of the musicians, both saxophone and computer.

Recording of Adolfo Núñez's Oscura Frontera Milenaria. This composition was heavily inspired by poetic text taken from the book "Europa" by Julio Martínez Mesanza. According to the composer, this text can help first world people be in the shoes of third world people. The work flows like several waves that are reviewing and transforming the material. This work was commissioned by the Universidad de Navarra. The instrumental ensemble used to record this composition was conducted by Vincente Martínez.

This piece was created to celebrate the life of the composer's late father. The quartet performs while surrounded by four loud speakers, each serving as a shadow of the player in front of it. Each player controls the volume, sampling, and processing of their shadow sound.

Digits

Recording of Neil Rolnick's Digits. This work was inspired by the use of "digits", as in fingers, to both play the piano and operate a computer. This is a composition for solo piano and digital processing in which the computer only plays sounds which originate from the piano. There can also be a video component to this piece of live images of the pianist's fingers as they play. The overall effect of the piece is of a classical, virtuoso piano sonata, in which the piano itself has been bent slightly out of shape, amplified, and multiplied.

Sattva

Recording of Stefano Trevisi's Sattva. This is a work for prepared piano and tape. The piano is prepared using metal objects, cymbals, and crotales. The composition is based on the relation between textures, derived from cycles of impulses and the gestural energy of complex sound events. The title comes from a term in Samkhya philosophy; Sattva is one of three energies which constitutes the Prakriti.

Yamaha PS 380

Recording of Phil Archer's Yamaha PS 380. This work is a recording of an improvisation performed solely on a Yamaha Portasound PSS-380 keyboard. The keyboard is played inverted, with the keys resting on the performer's lap and the underside casing removed to expose the circuit-board inside. A length of insulated wire, stripped at both ends, is used to create temporary short-circuits. This method creates some degree of unpredictability in the performer's playing.

Donnie's Room

Recording of John Mallia's Donnie's Room. This work is a mixed media installation with animated projection, television monitors, spatialized sound, and objects. This work is an homage to the composer's distant cousin, Donnie. This work attempts to reflect the scale at which a person living in a debilitating condition might experience moments of peace despite their otherwise unconquerable physical and/or mental constraints. The sounds, images and objects used in the installation represent gifts to Donnie and/or symbolize comfort, entertainment, stability, perseverance and constraint.

Motion and Glitch Study

Recording of Shintaro Imai's Motion and Glitch Study. This is a work for dance, visual image processing, and electronic sound. It was commissioned by Inventionen 2004 and was a collaborative work with Kazue Ikeda (dance improvisation). The main purpose of the piece is to experiment with the relationship between the gradual/sudden transformation of a dancer's motion, electronic glitch sounds, and visual textures as a result of modulation.

Recording of John Levack Drever's Ochlophoinc Study # 2 : Hong Kong. This piece is the second in a series of studies investigating crowd sounds. Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated areas in the world, but is also interspersed with green open spaces and sites of reflection and introspection. The sound material includes edited field recordings that aim to celebrate the sheer intensity of continuous human activity that is Hong Kong.

Treno in corsa

Recording of Michele Biasutti's Treno in corsa. This work is a real time performance with digital elaboration of the sound of noisers (intonarumori), the noise machines built by Luigi Russolo. This piece was inspired by Russolo's painting, "Treno in corsa nella notte" made in 1911 and is based on some perceptive phenomena studied in the field of psychology of music such as masking, space-time perception, and some perceptive illusions on rhythm.

Metallic

Recording of Abdul Wahid Hasnizam's Metallic. The idea for this piece came from listening to sounds of a music stand and was accidently recorded in a concert hall while the composer was working on a piece. Various techniques were used to play with the music stand, including plucking it and striking it with a pen and sometimes playing it as if it were a string instrument.

Banchory Ears

This work was commissioned by Woodend Arts Association and is a concert version of the music that the composer made to accompany the Banchory Faces photography exhibition in September 2003. The composer collected sonic photographs from various areas of Banchory in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The composer thanks Bertha Forbes, a local historian, for her recollection of sounds and for the use of the interview with her in this piece.

The work ends suddenly and only slight sounds of rain and music remain. This piece is part of a cycle titled "Musiques Écouter dans le Noir", a collection devoted to dreams.

Speaking...again

Recording of Elainie Lillios' Speaking...again. This is a radiophonic composition based on interviews with Don, a long-time friend of the composer. Don experienced a profound and life-changing challenge in his early 50's and set an example for how we should all approach living through his outlook and determination. Don teaches us not to take the simple things for granted. This work was commissioned by La Muse en circuit and premiered at the Péniche Adélaïde for the radiophonic art prizewinners competition.
