Attached to the memo is a copy of the State Planning Teams responsible for developing plans to implement the Goals 2000 Act, also an attached copy of Duke's recent letter to the California Goals 2000 planning team urging them to attend the arts.

A newsletter from In House at the University of North Texas, on the left side near the bottom of the page is a snippet of information regarding The Barnes Collection, with a quote by Dr. William McCarter, Regents Professor at UNT, "The Barnes collection was originally designed as a means of education." McCarter recently gave a lecture about the Barnes collection in conjunction with its exhibition at the Kimbell Art Museum.

A letter from Ann Bassi and Vicki Rosenberg, program officers for the Getty Center for Education in the Arts, to Jack Davis, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. The letter is in regards to the Getty Center confirming Davis' attendance and participation at the Working Group meeting November 15-17, 1993 in Laguna Beach, California. The purpose of the Working Group meeting is to begin to develop the long-rang strategic plans to address the Center's goals. The remaining letter details travel arrangements, accommodations, air travel and key information Davis will need before the meeting.

Photocopy of a pamphlet covering an Art and TAAS informational meeting for elementary teachers. The document includes the date, times and location of the inservice. The inside gives a description of the event and its purpose as well as the leaders of the event and an itinerary for the day. There is a section on the back that will certify that the teacher attended the inservice on the day it was held.

A document from the Federal Register, Department of Education, educational media research, production, distribution and training program and inviting applications for new awards for fiscal year (FY) 1993. The purpose of the program is to provide the continued availability of closed-captioned television, expand the cultural experiences available to children who are deaf and hard of hearing an to disseminate information about new technologies for person with sensory disabilities. These pages belonged to the desk of Jack Davis, William McCarter and the members of the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, as they researched foundations and charities to support their education reform program.

A newsletter from the Foundation News, a philanthropy and nonprofit sector, with an article on Corporate CEOs actively supporting new efforts to improve elementary and secondary education. An increasing number of CEOs of American corporations are helping to take the risk of formulating new solutions to recognize the shortcomings that characterize K-12 education. A hand-written note on the newsletter reads, "FYI: Participants art the Getty Center for Education in the Arts RIG Director's MTG. South Seas Plantation, Florida. October 28-31, 1990."

A newsletter clipping with bulletin information about the art happenings at the University of North Texas, information about the progress with the program North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts and with the art faculty involved at the school, the program and the Denton community. This newsletter informs about North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts members Nancy Cason, Project Coordinator, and colleague Cassandra Broadus, graduate research assistant, presented "discipline-based art education" or DBAE, at a pre-kindergarten - sixth grade teacher education workshop. Co-directors, Jack Davis and Bill McCarter were presenters at Arts Education Initiative Training Institutes conducted by the Texas Commission on the Arts in San Antonio and Houston.

A vision statement from the Florida Institute for Art Education, proposed Center of Excellence Getty Center for Education in the Arts by Jessie Lovano-Kerr, Director, Staff Development and Administration and Nancy Roucher, Director, Curriculum Implementation. The vision statement from the Florida Institute details the consortium's mission, to assist education communities in transforming content and outcomes for their educational programs. Their mission will be implemented through three programmatic areas: Regional Consortia; Model Schools; National Specialty featuring DBAE Instruction / Assessment Models.

A memo from Julie Abel, program associate at the Getty Center for Education in the Arts, to the Regional Institute Directors. The memo is in regards to updating the Center's survey they had asked the Directors to complete in the Summer of 1991 for the last year's Advisory Committee Notebook. In the memo, Abel has attached a chart showing the state-wide impact of the Regional Institutes that was complied form the information. Abel requests updated figures from 1992 by September 24, 1992.

A application for federal assistance, the Federal Register, Department of Education bilingual vocational instructor training program; notice inviting applications for new awards for fiscal year (FY) 1993. The purpose of the program is to provide financial assistance for preservice and inservice training for personnel participating in or preparing to participate in bilingual vocation education. The document goes into great details about the application and instructions for building a budget summary. Duke writes that because of changes in the Center's goals and planning they've determined not to proceed with the publication of the Creating and Beyond book and will inform their contacts of their final decision. Duke appreciates the time and effort the educators had given toward the project.

Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter, Jack Davis and Nancy Reynolds, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Chad Woolery, Acting Superintendent of Dallas ISD. Stating their disappointment for the schedule conflict that prevents him from being able to participate in NTIEVA, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, 1993 Summer Institute Administrator's Day. As such they are inviting Woolery to participate in an Administrator's Day for Dallas I.S.D. at the Meadows Museum at SMU and then the new wing of the Dallas Museum of Art. Their primary goal is to introduce NTIEVA to the new directors of the museum and introduce them to the DISD administrators. McCarter, Davis and Reynolds would like Woolery to present a greeting during the introductions of the day, and are having Janice Wiggins working with his secretary to schedule a day for this event in allowance of other key administrators to attend.

Reviewing how successful the 1991 Summer Institute was and how the implementation of the discipline-based art education is off to a good start. McCarter and Davis continue to say that they are already beginning preparations for the 1992 Summer Institute as they have a report due to the Getty Center for Education in the Arts mid-October to discuss a preliminary plan and budget. Consequently they need materials from Edwards by October 15, 1991 in order to insure continuation of a third year funding from the Getty Center. Included in the letter is a list of materials needed from Edwards, and finalizing points about how the Summer Institute will work.

In regards to the success of the 1991 summer institute and its implementation for the school year being off to a good start. The six teams of teachers from HEB elementary schools worked hard during the two weeks and received many hours of intensive preparation in the DBAE program. In order for the Getty Institute to continue their grant to NTIEVA, McCarter and Davis write that they need materials from Caloss that they've written out in details through the rest of the letter. Enclosed with the letter, is a draft of a letter McCarter and Davis need from Caloss, to modify to suit his style.

In regards to an invitation Chadwick had received from Harold M. Williams, President of the J. Paul Getty Trust, to attend a dinner on January 12, 1995 in connection with the Getty Center's national conference. Duke is writing to give more information on the conference, which is being held from January 11th - 14th at the Washington Hilton and Towers in Washington, D.C. The three day conference will feature speakers from business, education, government and the arts.

Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter and Nancy Cason, NTIEVA to Beverly Fletcher, Art Supervisor, Fort Worth ISD., in regards to how well the school year has gotten off to, and despite the budgetary limitations, teachers and art specialists have already reported success and enthusiasm working together and the improvement of the children. McCarter and Cason would like to remind Fletcher of upcoming "renewal" sessions for the 1990 and 1991 Institute participants and other art specialists belong to the district. The first event will be held October 19th, at the UNT Art Department to discuss practical ideas on talking with kids about art and ways of introducing art history to children, however, they will be unable to pay the teachers to attend these renewal sessions but a lunch will be provided.

In regards to the spring of 1995 progress report Davis and McCarter had sent Rosenberg about their activities and achievements for NTIEVA. Rosenberg is interested to hear that Bill McCarter plans to retires from NTIEVA after the summer of 1997 and commends both of them for their leadership they have brought to NTIEVA. Rosenberg requests that they address certain issues in their next report due October 1, 1995 or to send them separately so that she may review them. Copied on the letter is Julie Abel.

Photocopy of a letter template from E.A. Carmean, director of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, to Advisory Committee Members of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. In the letter Carmean is calling the advisory committee to a meeting on October 19, 1990 at 5:00 PM. After the meeting Carmean has invited the committee members to a cocktail reception at his home, in honor of the online teachers who have helped the educational reform program. Carmean writes that he has attached a separate invitation to the party to the letter. The invitation is not present with the letter.
