Photograph of erosion control measures on a cultivated field. This field was formerly farmed with straight down hill rows and the soil suffered badly from silting. Terraces and grassed channels have been constructed and contour cultivation is now practiced. A volunteer crop of wheat serves as winter cover and supplemental pasture for livestock.

Photograph of a drop inlet on Cloud Creek watershed operating after a 4. 6 inch rain in 4 hours. This drop inlet is above Detention Reservoir No. 1. Very little of the one inch flood storage was used. A 48 inch pipe is through the dam and the 280 acre drainage area had good land treatment on it.

Photograph of a view east across top of detention reservoir No. 1 on Cloud Creek. The 3 trucks at the pool of water are sprinkler equipped. Owned by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, the trucks were used to keep down dust on sandy roads during the dedication ceremonies on the upstream flood control structures. OK-9619.

Photograph of terrace outlet channel under construction. Channel will be widened, shaped and sodded. Vegetation will be allowed to become well-established before terrace water is emptied into it. Terraces will be constructed in the field and will empty into channel from both sides. Photograph of sorghum planted for non-competitive cover in preparation for seeding to side oats grama that will be drilled in the early spring [of 1945]. Sorghum was planted after harvesting small grains. Sideoats grama will be sown with native grass seed drilled in 36 inch rows and cultivated for seed production. Seed will be made available to co-operators in the Upper Washita Soil Conservation District. OK-8933.

Photograph of a follow-up of a roadside drop-inlet flood control structure adjoining the Sid Lundy farm. The structure was built where formerly a dangerous wooden bridge spanned a gully on a school bus and mail route. County Commissioners furnished the pipe and the Soil Conservation District put in a fill through the Soil Conservation Service Flood Control program. The permanent basin is full of water. OK-9600-D.

Photograph of part of 23 acre first year lovegrass seed increases planting on Class I land Grass made good stand in spite of Johnson grass competition. Three crops of Johnson grass were cut this year and lovegrass has just been cultivated. Seed will be sold to cooperators in the district. OK-8932.
