A letter written to a parolee in Abilene, Texas from John Ben Shepperd (signed by Pauline Kirk, Chief, Parole Division), Department of State, Austin, Texas dated January 5, 1950. Kirk orders the parolee to report to Mr. T. N. Carswell and advises Subject regarding the parole violation that was committed, of the transfer of the case to Taylor County and of the importance to abide by the parole requirements.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Omar Burleson, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated January 19, 1950. Burleson acknowledges his receipt of the telegram from Carswell and expresses his appreciation for Carswell wiring with reference to HR 133. He assures Carswell of his support of the proposition to restore the authority of the Rules Committee as provided by this action, that it will be a close vote. Burleson writes in a postscript that he will write, again, relative to questions Carswell mentioned in the poll submitted by Burleson.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Mrs. W. L. Ross, dated January 17, 1951. Ross advises Carswell that Hardin has had three heart attacks, that George runs errands for Ruth twice a day, and that George's daughter, Suzanne, is to be married February 2nd.

A letter written to "Miss Emma Patterson" (Mrs. J. F. Daugharty), Fargo, Georgia from T. N. Carswell, dated January 20, 1956. Carswell expresses his sympathy to Daugharty on the death of her husband and reminisces about the past and how he knew her. Attached is a newspaper article printed by the Clinch County News, Homerville, Georgia, with an obituary titled "J. F. Daugharty Dies At Age 83".

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from George S. Anderson, Abilene Printing & Stationery Company, dated January 7, 1958. Anderson expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell dated December 23rd advising Carswell that it made him feel very humble, that it helped him and that "if we had more Tommie Carswells, the world would be a better world".

A letter written to Dr. E. S. James, Editor of The Baptist Standard, from T. N. Carswell, dated January 10, 1958. Carswell discusses the attached editorial written by James, "Down with The Baptists" and addresses an inference that he finds unclear: "that our Baptist schools are in error when admission is granted to non-Baptists, and in admitting Baptists whose church record is amiss". Carswell advises of his disagreement with such a policy, of the effects of the possible application in the future. The article in question, which appeared in the January 1958 issue of The Baptist Standard, is attached, and includes the report regarding student protests at Wake Forest demonstrating against the convention for its ban on dancing on campus; condemnation of the action by Wake Forest trustees which allowed dancing on campus; praise regarding action taken by President J. C. Canipe; condemnation of students on any Baptist campus participating in unchristian demonstrations then presenting the theory these students are not Baptists which stems from schools accepting applicants from other denominations.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from a parolee/inmate, in Weldon, Texas, dated January 1, 1956. Subject 108,345 expresses to Carswell his joyous feeling regarding his date of discharge which is to be on March 16. A portion of the envelope is also included in the record and is addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, and is postmarked from Weldon, Texas, on January 4, 1956.

A letter addressed to the Honorable John Ben Shepperd, Attorney General, Austin, Texas, from Wiley L. Caffey, Abilene, Texas, dated January 6, 1956. Caffey requests advisement by Shepperd on whether or not the setting aside of a sentence by the court in the discussed case restores citizenship and entitles the person convicted to vote.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from G. R. Klopfenstein, Chief, Bureau of Probation and Parole, Columbus, Ohio, dated January 31, 1957. Klopfenstein expresses his appreciation for the willingness of Carswell to assist in the supervision of Subject 95040 in the case that Subject is not returned to the Ohio Penitentiary.

Carswell discusses the Texas prison record of Subject describing it as good but advises of Subject's concern as to his status in Ohio in view of his violation of parole. Carswell offers to accept Subject for supervision.

A letter addressed to Mr. E. A. Burkhart, Executive Secretary, Adult Authority, Sacramento 14, California via Mr. John Ben Shepperd, Secretary of State, Austin, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman., Taylor County, Texas, Parole Board, dated January 17, 1952. Carswell submits the requested information to Burkhart in behalf of Subject requesting that any omissions be noted. He confirms that the required advertising is running in San Bernadino .

Carswell advises Gordon that he supports the request made by Subject for a Commutation of Sentence and a Full Pardon and Restoration.

Wattenbarger advises Carswell of the policy requiring the publishing of a Notice of Intention to Apply for Executive Clemency in California.

A letter written to a parolee in Abilene, Texas from E. A. Burkhart, Executive Secretary, Adult Authority, Sacramento 14, California, dated January 28, 1952. Burkhart acknowledges receipt of two questionnaires completed by Subject and other papers, all found to be satisfactory, and assumes an Affidavit of Publication will be sent at the expiration of the 30 day period. He expresses his appreciation for the promptness of Subject in attending to the details of the matter.
