Weeping Lovegrass

Irrigation and Land Leveling

Soil Conservation Service program started in 1954 on this farm with irrigation surveys being made on 27 acres. Adequate water source was not found until 1956. Two sources now being developed. Photograph of native grass pasture overgrazed. Native grass pasture overgrazed with additional drought damage. Soil Conservation program started in 1941 on this farm. Until recently this ranch was one of our examples of proper use. Droughts of 1954, 1955 and 1956 reduced the carrying capacity of the range so that it is now badly overgrazed. Mrs. J. H. Photograph of native grass seeding. Native grass seeding made in 1950 on the right. Meadow on the left was overgrazed while considerable growth was left on the seeded areas. No fertilizers were used in either area. The Soil conservation Service [SCS] began here on this ranch in 1941. The right area was terraced in 1947 and was seeded to native bluestem mixture in 1950.
