Photograph of a John's wife holding three balloons, one has been shot through by Slingshot John Milligan. In the image the balloon in her right hand has just been popped and the other two are next to be shot. John Milligan, a machinist in Detroit, Michigan who was also the “country’s greatest slingshot expert. “He won local fame by shooting the marks out of playing cards, hitting objects in mid air and bagging game in the field.” Joe took John national with his photos documenting his talent and accuracy. To assure accuracy, he has designed his own precision-built aluminum sling, called the Milligan Special. Additional photos and information can be found in the Clark Family Collection. From abstract: Results of a reconnaissance geochemical survey of the Iron Mountain Quadrangle, Michigan; Wisconsin are reported. Field and laboratory data are presented for 479 groundwater samples, 369 stream sediment samples, and 389 stream water samples. Statistical and areal distributions of uranium and other possible uranium-related variables are displayed. A generalized geologic map of the survey area is provided, and pertinent geologic factors which may be of significance in evaluating the potential for uranium mineralization are briefly discussed.

Postcard from W. B. Johnston to George Pendexter concerning life in Battle Creek, Michigan, Johnston says that they are having a cold winter. The photograph shows a building in town badly damaged by a fire; the sign on the building reads: "YES WE WILL REBUILD AT ONCE, TEMPORARY OFFICES 401 EQUITY BLDG., Chamberlin Metal Weather Strip Co."

Postcard from W. B. Johnston to George Pendexter with the names of other firemen collectors: "Capt. George H. Cook; Gus Brown; B. F. Garrigus." The photograph shows a building after it has been burned down, Johnston says that it was burned January 9, 1912; the middle portion of the building has been destroyed, only the walls in the front and back have been left standing.
