This "ashy" or powerdy condition results from failure to use crop residues in surface of soil and from old-fashioned tillage methods (continious one-waying or disking) that leaves surface ashy instead of cloddy.

Photograph of Mr. & Mrs. S. B. Sandlin, Jr. inspect a heavy seed head of Autauga reseeding Crimson clover. It is evident that a good seed yield is expected here. This will be the first Autauga crimsom to be combined for seed in Webster Parish. Seeded on Nov. 10, 1949 with 12 pounds of seed. Fertilized with 1 ton of lime, 1000 pound rock phosophorus, 150 pounds muriate of potash, 15 pounds Borax per acre. LA-61-869.

Photograph of Lyndal McCrory, rancher of Milo, OK (right) and Herman Denny, his foreman, have been rounding up some of McCrory's registered Black Angus bulls. There are five watershed structures on the tributaries of Caddo Creek on the ranch and provide flood protection. McCrory has stopped all row cropping and has gone completely to cattle and grass. Photograph of rabbit traps made of logs. Hundreds of traps of this type were used last winter for commercial rabbit trapping. Manhy of the farmers depend heavily on the income derived from rabbit trapping. The rabbits sold for 10 cents each. Dr. Lafaye caught over 300 rabbits before Christmas.
