Modeling of current profile evolution and equilibria in negative central shear discharges in the DIII-D experiment

Recent DIII-D advanced tokamak experiments with negative central shear (NCS) have resulted in operation at high normalized {beta}, {beta}{sub N}={beta}/(I/aB), to 4.2, confinement enhancement factors to H=4 (H={tau}{sub E}/{tau}ITER-89P), and record neutron rates for DIII-D to 2.4X10{sup 16} neutrons/sec. These data were obtained during high triangularity, single and double null diverted operation with peaked (L-mode) and broad (H-mode) pressure profiles. We are modeling the spatial and temporal current profile evolution for these discharges using Corsica, a predictive 1-1/2 D equilibrium and transport code. Current profile evolution is self-consistently determined by including current diffusion resulting from current drive due to early neutral beam injection during the ohmic current ramp-up phase of the discharge and the bootstrap current drive associated with pressure profile evolution.

The Utilization of the Microflora Indigenous to and Present in Oil-Bearing Formations to Selectively Plug the More Porous Zones Thereby Increasing Oil Recovery During Waterflooding

The objective of this work is to demonstrate the use of indigenous microbes as a method of profile control in waterfloods. It is expected that as the microbial population is induced to increase, that the expanded biomass will selectively block the more permeable zones of the reservoir thereby forcing injection water to flow through the less permeable zones which will result in improved sweep efficiency. This increase in microbial population will be accomplished by injecting a nutrient solution into four injectors. Four other injectors will act as control wells. During Phase I, two wells will be cored through the zone of interest. The core will be subjected to special core analyses in order to arrive at the optimum nutrient formulation. During Phase II, nutrient injection will begin, the results monitored, and adjustments to the nutrient composition made, if necessary. Phase II also will include the drilling of three wells for post-mortem core analysis. Phase III will focus on technology transfer of the results. It contains five major sections: Fuel Fabrication Processes, Irradiation of Nuclear Fuel, Spent Fuel Handling, Radiochemical Reprocessing of Irradiated Fuel, and Plutonium Finishing Operations. Within each section the story of the earliest operations is told, along with changes over time until the end of operations. Chemical and physical processes are described, along with the facilities where these processes were carried out. This document is a processes and facilities history. It does not deal with the waste products of plutonium production.

Final design review report for the RMCS Flammable Gas Detection Interlock

This report document the completion of the formal design review for the RMCS (Rotary Mode Core Sampling) flammable gas detector interlock. This hydrogen/flammable gas interlock, a proposed addition to the RMCS system portable exhauster, in intended to support core sampling operations in waste tanks requiring flammable gas controls. The objective of this review was to approve new drawings at the 100% design completion state. The conclusion reached by the review committee was that the design was acceptable and efforts should continue toward fabrication and delivery.

Sampling and analysis plan for sludge located in fuel storage canisters of the 105-K east basin

This Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP) provides direction for the first sampling of sludge from the K East Basin spent fuel canisters. The specially developed sampling equipment used removes representative samples of sludge while maintaining the radioactive sample underwater in the basin pool (equipment is described in WHC-SD-SNF-SDD-004). Included are the basic background logic for sample selection, the overall laboratory analyses required and the laboratory reporting required. These are based on requirements put forth in the data quality objectives (WHC-SD-SNF-DQO-008) established for this sampling and characterization activity.
