Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "A little thing like mude four inches deep all over the arena won't stop rodeo. At least it didn't. This picture, made September 17, shows one of the world's most unusual rodeos. It's behind the walls of the state penitentiary at McAlester, and the fact that it went on at all is a gauge of interest shown by everyone around the big house. The show was revived lasr week after a long lay-off during the war. The Saturday event was muddy and wet. But it dried out for the Sunday afternoon performance, and when it goes on again this Sunday - it was given Saturday afternoon, too - for the last of the four performances - ti will have everything down to a fine point.........Warden C. P. Burford and Lawernce Clements, manager of the prison canteens, have organized the present one. Profits from the admission sales go to canteen fund, which provide most of the recreational measures at the prison. Sen. H. D. Binns of Coalgate is the arena director, and his assistant is George Kimes, serving life."
