O'Hara discusses his entry into psychology and perinatal mental health issues in particular; his involvement in the Marcé Society for Perinatal Mental Health; his overall research trajectory; transition from cognitive behavioral to interpersonal psychotherapy; changes in the field with regard to hormones and neuroscience; changing funding climates; the relationship between perinatal health researchers and activists; postpartum depression and race; and the politics of identifying postpartum depression as a discrete disease.
