Dugout Pond

Photograph of a dugout pond 40x50x10. Ely, contractor. Lang became a cooperator with the Love County SCD 10/10/60. 100 acres in farm. Basic conservation plan developed. Old fields to be planted to bermuda. Brush to be controlled by chemical means.

Photograph of John McCoy who points to pine growth despite drought, to M.H. Conine of the Soil Conservation Service [SCS]. While 84 years of age, McCoy plants some pine every winter. He, with Mrs. McCoy, having been on this land since 1905 are cooperating with the Little River Soil Conservation District [LRSCD] to make half of their 80 acre farm into forest. Photograph of switchgrass. The switchgrass was planted on March 27, 1956. There was no moisture to germinate the seed until April 28. The fertilized part receive 100 pounds of 16-20-0 per acre. OK-395-6.

Grass, Legume and Forb Cultivation

Photograph of Weeping Love Grass in a two acre field set out by A. H. Legako on May 2, 1942. Seedling plants were obtained from the Soil Conservation Service Land Utilization Project at Muskogee, OK. The seed crop was combined on 1942-07-08. and 26 pounds of recleaned seed were obtained on 1942-10-10. A hay crop might have been cut but Mr. Legako preferred to leave the grass blades on the ground for winter protection of the rocks. OK-8426.
