Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Damages in the four-alarm fire that swept a Midwest City shopping center late Saturday may well exceed first estimates of $500,000. Fire Chief John R. Ferrish said Sunday. Ferrish said investigatiors have failed to uncover a cause for the blaze in the ruins of the row of shops that make up East Atkinson Plaza in the 7300 block SE 29. "From all indications loss will run well over the $500,000 figure," Ferrish said. "We're still investigating the cause."......Ferrish said the C. R. Anthony store was "totally destroyed" by the blaze. The OTASCO store will also was listed as a total loss and nine other businesses suffered severe smoke, water and fire damage. Thad Curtis, manager of the Anthony store, said Sunday that plans are being made to re-open the outlet in the same location...Firefighters from Midwest City and Oklahoma City battled the blaze past midnight Saturday. All off-duty Midwest City firmen were called to the scene and six companies from Oklahoma City assisted. Fire hoses wind like snakes into burned OTASCO store. Roof in rear has collapsed."
