This report summarizes environmental information for the Hanford Site in Washington State for the calendar year 2001.

Mechanical vibrations of the RHIC IR triplets has been identified as the dominant source of horizontal orbit jitter in the frequency domain below 20 Hz. Results of detailed measurements are be reported to characterize these effects.

Ground motion studies have been performed at DESY for more than a decade, covering beam motion in the two-ring e-p collider NEW, luminosity preservation in Linear Colliders, and active stabilization methods. An overview of past and present activities will be given.

This report summarizes the results of testing and evaluation of noble metal surrogates that will support testing of noble metals in melters. The candidate system, potential surrogates, model glass systems, and test conditions have been chosen based on the existing reported data in literature as well as expertise existing at various sites, thermodynamics, physical properties, and cost. The methodology involves testing interaction of RuO2 and WO3 and other surrogates in the test melt followed by characterization of the bulk glass and oxide-glass melt interfaces. The report explains different techniques used for studying settling, crystallization, rheology, and partitioning of noble metals or surrogates or spinel phases in the selected systems. The report presents and discusses how these results support the selection of the suitable surrogate for RuO2. Finally the report concludes with the best-suited surrogate (WO3) proposed and makes suitable recommendations for the follow up melter test activities.

The transition of the World Wide Web from a paradigm of static Web pages to one of dynamic Web services provides new and exciting opportunities for bioinformatics with respect to data dissemination, transformation, and integration. However, the rapid growth of bioinformatics services, coupled with non-standardized interfaces, diminish the potential that these Web services offer. To face this challenge, we examine the notion of a Web service class that defines the functionality provided by a collection of interfaces. These descriptions are an integral part of a larger framework that can be used to discover, classify, and wrapWeb services automatically. We discuss how this framework can be used in the context of the proliferation of sites offering BLAST sequence alignment services for specialized data sets.
