Patent for a new and improved door for railroad cars. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the car having the door-opening with its upper and lower edges parallel and inclined upward and inward, and the bolt-keeper secured to the sill of the car, of the door having correspondingly-inclined upper and lower edges, the guide-staple and fulcrum-bracket secured to the door at proper points, the operating-lever pivoted to said bracket, the link-rods and bolt, the [other] link-rod pivoted at its lower end to the operating-lever" (lines 4-14).

This design consists "[i]n a can-opener, the combination, with a radius-bar having a handle at one end and a vertical fulcrum or pivot-pin, of an adjustable sleeve mounted on the bar and carrying two cutters, one being adapted to act as a guide and the other as a cutter" (lines 27-32).

This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the draw-head, of an upright or standard secured thereto, a lever pivoted to said upright or standard, a coupling-pin pivoted to said lever, a flat spring secured to the underside of the draw-head and extending outwardly beyond the same, and a chain connecting said lever and spring" (lines 16-22).

This design "compris[es] a front rod and a back rod or spring united together by welding, said whiffletree having its ends rounded to form shoulders and provided with hooks fitting upon the rounded ends and prevented from slipping inward by the shoulders, and disks placed upon said rounded ends and attained thereon by swaging the latter" (lines 6-13).

Patent for a new and improved whiffletree. This design "compris[es] a front bar, a back rod or spring united to the front bar by welding, the ends of both said bar and rod being bent upon themselves and the parts welded together to construct an eye or opening, whereby both bar and rod are bent around the latter . . . a strengthening-piece placed between the front bar and the back rod or spring, and a casing secured to the back rod and adapted to hold the strengthening-piece in place" (lines 8-18).

Corn Planter and Dropper.

Patent for a new and improved seed planter or dropper. This design utilizes a hopper, a shaft provided with cups, a bevel having a countersunk opening provided with a recess, a gate hinged in said recess and held in contact with the cups on the shaft by a spring, and a concave partition fitting the periphery of the shaft, all constructed and arranged in a novel way (lines 68-75). Additionally, this design utilizes a wheel, the motion of which dispenses the seed.

Corn and Cotton Sweep.

Patent for a new and improved corn and cotton sweep. This design "is to provide an improved sweep for the cultivation of corn, cane, and cotton plants while they are young, which shall be capable of adjustment to plow-stocks of any class; to provide removable wings which can be applied or detached when it is desired to throw the dirt or soil to either the right or left; and to provide a removable point which can be replaced when it is worn out with another point of similar construction and thus render the sweep as good as new and save the farmer the cost of a new sweep" (lines 16-27).
