Unpublished newspaper copy for an article to be headlined "Black Civic Groups Wants [sic] to Honor Veteran Journalist" about the efforts of the Jackson, Mississippi chapter of The Links, Inc. to raise funds to assist Hazel Brannon Smith. Smith was a publisher and journalist who won a Pulitzer Prize for her editorials in support of the civil rights movement, a stance which resulted in her ostracism from local white society and her newspaper's eventual bankruptcy. Aaronetta Pierce (referred to here as A. M. Pierce) passed this unpublished copy of the article on to Margaret Winn, president of the San Antonio chapter. Includes handwritten notes.

Includes a list of candidates who were nominated for office by chapters other than their own chapter as well as all of the profiles. The candidates for national president are Dolly D. Adams and Marion S. Sutherland. Thelma Hardiman is the only candidate for national vice president; Ruth Williams is the only candidate for secretary; and Leatrice Dodd is the only candidate for treasurer. Zola Boone and Mose Hooks are both at-large candidates. The candidates for the national nominating committee are Vivian Bell, Shirley Colvin, Etta Mae Dawson, Lettie Green, Clementyne Guy, Lulu Hardesty, Vera Hayes, Josephine Kennedy, Hazel Mapwell, Uarda Parnell, and Elizabeth Youngue.

Due to inflation, Links will run a substantial deficit for the year, and action must be taken to avoid running deficits in subsequent years. Lawson proposes increasing fees, dues, and fines for members to raise the necessary revenue to keep the organization from going bankrupt. She is presenting a budget and finance report to all members so that they can discuss appropriate measures. Includes statement of current assets, statement of income, actual and projected expenses for 1979-1980 and 1980-1982, summary and comparison of budget percentages, and information about the national assembly.
