[Postcard of Pleasure Pier, Port Arthur, Texas, January 17, 1945]

Postcard featuring an illustration of Pleasure Pier in Port Arthur, Texas. The pier extends from a large field. On the pier are several white buildings with red rooves and pathways connecting them. Behind the buildings and to the left is a wooden rollercoaster extending the entire length of the pier. In the background and to the right are a Ferris Wheel and other small carnival rides. There are stamps on the front of the postcard, one saying "Gilbert Tidewater Industrial Sites" and the other saying "The World's Oil Refining Center". The rest of the text of the stamps are smudged and obscured. There is also writing on the front of the card that is too faded to be interpreted. On the back of the card is a message from Harry W. Gilbert to Isaac H. Kempner suggesting Galveston dig a canal from the Brazos river to grow the city industrially and serve as a drainage canal.

Postcard of the Liberté, a ship part of the French Line. The photo shows the Liberté sailing in slightly choppy water. She has two large funnels and two masts from which nautical flags are being flown. There are several lifeboats hung above the railing and the passenger windows. The Liberté's hull is black and her deck and platforms above are white. The sky behind her appears cloudy and gray. On the back of the postcard is a message to Harris Leon Kempner from one of his friends from war discussing his travels.

[Postcard of the Trans World Airlines Jetstream, March 17, 1960]

Postcard of the Jetstream, a commercial plane owned by Trans World Airlines. The Jetstream has four propeller engines on its wings and two vertical stabilizers on the ends of the horizontal stabilizers in addition to the central vertical stabilizer. The Jetstream is painted whit with two red stripes going across the fuselage and the "TWA" logo in red at the end of the stripes, as well as the words "Trans World Airlines" in red and the American flag above the passenger windows. The left wing has the red "TWA" logo and each vertical stabilizer has two red stripes. On the back of the card is a message to Isaac H. and Henrietta Leonora Blum Kempner wishing them success with their garden on St. Patrick's Day and expressing regret that the University of Texas is experiencing mediocrity again.
