Caption: "A navy jet fighter plane crashed and burned in a hilly, wooded are south of Draper Lake Tuesday afternoon, seconds after its pilot succesfully ejected. The pilot has been attempting to land at Tinker Air Force Base, due north of the crash scene. He had told the Tinker tower he was experiencing engine trouble, and was directed by the tower operator to the uninhabited area where the plane fell. Marine Capt. Alec Gillerspie, 34, based at the navy test center in Patuxent River, Md., suffered only minor injuries after he parachuted to safety. His plane, an A-7A attack fighter, fell over a quarter-mile area near SE 164 and Westminister Rd......Gillespie, who leads the service testing program of the A-7A, suffered no noticeable scratches after parachuting to earth from about 1,000 feet up."
