His inaugural ball at Shephard Mall drew a crowd which was estimated by Chief Byron Hollander and Fire Marshall E. L. Koch at 35,000. By 8:45 p.m., uniformed highway patrolmen and National Guardsmen had sealed off the mall temporarily, turning back people with inviatations in hand. Even caught outside was Patrick Williams, one of the new governor's law partners amd master of ceremonies at the inauguration earlier Monday.........People started showing up as early as 6 p.m. and, by 8 p.m. the mall was pretty well packed. A store at the north end of the mall closed and locked its doors at 8:45 p.m., 15 minutes before its regular closing time. Those who planned the ball called it a success, others called it a disaster. "This is ridiculous," one woman said, "I've been to two inaugral balls in Washington, and at least you could get in and have a place to sit down." Tom Morris Enterprises will build North Park Mall at the southeast corner of NW 122, May, about a mile north of his Quail Plaza center and a mile east of The Greens, a planned residential community. The mall will be placed on 24 acres and cost about $5 million Morris said. Morris also announced plans for expansion of Quail Plaze which currently includes several shops and the Quail Twin Theaters. The North Park Mall will be anchored by a 25,000-square-foot Safeway outlet. It will include the first four-screen indoor theater in Oklahoma, Morris said. The theaters will be fully automated and will be operated by North Park Cinema Four Inc. The Safeway store will include several new features not used in the existing outlets, according to Earl Templton, Western Oklahoma division manager and vice president. Templeton said the new store will include a complete in-store bakery, one of only three such facilities for Safeway in Oklahoma City. All the bakery goods will be manufactured in the store.
