Caption: "City firemen floundered in four-foot snowdrifts before dawn Thursday in a futile attempt to stem flames that gutted the city's big all-steel hangar at Tulakes airport and destroyed 31 planes. Although not spectacular, because flames couldn't break through the metal walls, the fire caused damage estimated at $125,000. It was an hour before firemen could thaw out fire hydrants frozen solid by near-zero temperatures."

More than 60 cars were backed up because of the cars stalled here. Twelve cars stalled there before 6 p.m., 37 had stalled there by Thursday morning. Thurday afternoon bulldozers were attempting to cut new paths through the drift to open the way for traffic. The near by Giles ranch gave shelter to 18 of the motorists trapped bny the snow Wednesday night. Seven persons slept in one bed."
