Photograph of a view of a broken dam from the downstream side. A six inch rain in one night caused the dam to overtop its entire length and finally break. Notice the huge pieces of concrete from the core wall. As facing the wall, they were carried down by water. A large bridge washed through this break. This dam and resevoir, which cost $350,000, silted in 48% in nine years and was soon to be abandoned because its storage capacity was reduced too much for it to be relied upon for the city water supply.
