The Fabrication of Subassemblies for the Supercritical-Water Reactor
In studies of the fabrication of fuel subassemblies for the supercritical-water reactor, the limited ductility of stainless steel-UO₂ fuel sheet made the fabrication of corrugated-flat-plate-type subassemblies impractical. A fabricable MTR-type assembly, 5/8 in. square and 30 in. long, was developed. Methods for edge cladding fuel sheet were developed and a brazing alloy, GE-75, was found to be corrosion resistant in supercritical water.

The Reaction Al²⁷(p,3pn)Na²⁴
Abstract: "The cross section for the reaction Al²⁷(p,3pn)Na²⁴ has been measured for proton energies between 30 and 350 Mev relative to the cross section for the reaction C12(p,3pn)C11, and the absolute magnitude determined by matching with data measured with a Faraday cup at 350 Mev and at 31.5 Mev."

Airborne Reconnaissance Survey of Northwestern Arizona (Arizona Strip) and Southwestern Utah
Abstract: From December 1953 to May 1954 an extensive airborne reconnaissance program was conducted in northwestern Arizona (Arizona Strip) and southwestern Utah. Five surface anomalies were detected, one of which has possible commercial value. All anomalies are within the boundaries of National Park Service jurisdiction, consequently, this report is not for public distribution until clearance is obtained from the National Park Service. A preliminary airborne reconnaissance program was also conducted in the Richfield area. No anomalies were discovered.

Investigation of the Suitability of Prepakt Concrete for Mass and Reinforced Concrete Structures: Appendices A and B
Introduction: Three matters discussed in the main report on the investigation of the suitability of Prepakt concrete for mass and reinforced concrete structures, issued in October 1951, required further study. These matters are (a) the properties of Alfesil, (b) the permeability of Prepakt concrete, and (c) the resistance of Prepakt concrete to natural weathering.

Investigation of the Effect of Balancing Tabs on the Hinge-Moment Characteristics of a Trailing-Edge Flap-Type Control on a Trapezoidal Wing at a Mach Number of 1.61
Report presenting an investigation at Mach number 1.61 to determine the effect of 10-percent control are attached tabs on the hinge-moment characteristics of a trailing-edge flap-type control on a trapezoidal wing with a 23 degree sweptback leading edge, aspect ratio of 3.1, and taper ratio of 0.4. Results regarding hinge-moment coefficients, tab parameters, and control effectiveness are provided.

Comparison Between Theoretical and Experimental Rates of Roll of Two Models with Flexible Rectangular Wings at Supersonic Speeds
"A comparison is presented between the experimentally measured and theoretically calculated (by the method of NACA TN 3067) rates of roll of two rocket-propelled models with flexible rectangular wings. The comparisons show that although there are large aeroelastic losses in rolling rate, the theory predicts the actual rate of roll accurately" (p. 1).

Performance of a 16-inch ram-jet engine with a can-type combustor at Mach numbers of 1.50 to 2.16
Report presenting an investigation in the supersonic wind tunnel to evaluate the performance of a 16-inch ramjet engine using a can-type-combustor configuration. Data were obtained over a range of fuel-air ratios, free-stream Mach numbers, and angles of attack. Combustion efficiencies were generally unaffected by free-stream Mach number and varied between 60 and 90 percent with JP-4 fuel.

Effects of Canopy, Revised Vertical Tail, and a Yaw-Damper Vane on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a 1/16-Scale Model of the Douglas D-558-II Research Airplane at a Mach Number of 2.01
Report discussing the aerodynamic characteristics in pitch and sideslip of a model of a Douglas D-558-II airplane with and without a yaw-damper vane at Mach number 2.01. A revised model was tested using a canopy and modified vertical tail. The revised configuration was found to have higher directional stability, trim lift coefficients, drag, and more positive effective dihedral than the original configuration.

A Nonlinear Theory of Bending and Buckling of Thin Elastic Shallow Spherical Shells
The problem of the finite displacement and buckling, of a shallow spherical dome is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. Experimental results seem to indicate that the classical criterion of buckling is applicable to very shallow spherical domes for which the theoretical calculation was made. A transition to energy criterion for higher domes is also indicated.
