Patent for "a hitching device which can be applied to a strap between its ends and which is freely adjustable back and forth upon the strap without wearing or injuring the strap in any manner and to form a hitching device which consists of two entirely separate and distinct pieces, thus doing away with all joints, pivots, or other connections, and the necessity for forming holes or perforations of any kind in the strap." Sweeping Machine.

Patent for a new and improved sweeping machine. This design consists, "with the frame mounted upon supporting-wheels at its front and rear ends and having the rotating rear axle, of the vertically-adjustable revolving brush receiving motion from the said axle, and a dust pan or receptacle having laterally extending pins or plugs, whereby it is supported detachably upon the frame of the machine in front of the revolving brush" (lines 13-21).

Patent for a new and improved sod-cutter. This design consists, "with a sod-cutter comprising the frame, the horizontal blade, the beam, the handle-bars, and the brace-rod connecting the said beam with the outer handle-bar . . . of the upwardly and outwardly curved guide-rods secured to the rear of the said blades, the curved cutting-blades secured to said rods for dividing the cut sod into separate portions, and the fender provided with a forwardly-bent flange at its upper edge and secured to the said brace-rod diagonally of the machine and behind and above the said blades" (lines 76-88).

Patent for a new and improved stove-flue cleaner. This design "has for its objects, among others, to provide a simple device by which the soot may be removed from the flue and gathered into a receptacle without danger of getting it on the floor" (lines 11-15). It "consist[s] of a vessel with a tube extending therethrough and a handle fitted to slide through said tube and carrying a scraper" (lines 52-55).

Patent for a rotary gate that has latch-posts and spring-latches at its ends. The spring-latches are designed to employ the latches. "Levers fulcrumed on the top of the gate and connected with each other, connecting-rods connecting said levers with the spring-latches, and vibratory braces rising from the sides of the gate and secured to said levers" (lines 33-37).

Patent for a "gravity-hinge for causing a gate to automatically close, and which is susceptible of such adjustment that if the gate-post and the latch-post, either or both, become disarranged as regards their perpendicular position, or if they are not exactly coincident with relation to each other, the gate can be centered relatively to the latch-post, or rather the hinged end of the gate can be set precisely perpendicular or be shifted laterally to any required angle of inclination for the purpose of causing the gate to properly close and engage the latch on the latch-post." "The purpose of this cylinder is more for appearance than any actual service, because when the lock is put on the rail of the sash, as shown in Fig. 1, part of it will be seen through the glass from the outside, and the cylinder can be made ornamental and would look much neater than the lock would without it" (lines 87-89)

This design "is to produce a simple and inexpensive tie which may be easily secured in a road-bed and to which the rails may be solidly and conveniently fastened and which is also adapted to be used in connection with wooden sleepers, being constructed so that it may be easily placed in position between wooden sleepers without tearing up the rails" (lines 9-16).
