Troops strength in South Vietnam is reported to have dropped by more than 60 per cent from the high point reached a little more than two years ago. The U. S. command says a 2,300 man cutback last week reduced the American troop total to 216,700. The American presence has peaked at 543,400 men. The current withdrawl pace is ahead of President Nixon’s announced ceiling of 184,00 men to be reached by December first. The total is said likely to drop to as low as 173,000 by the end of November. Meanwhile the Saigon command says two terrorists attacks killed five Vietnamese civilians and wounded 30 others. The raids were reported in the Mekong Delta south of Saigon and a central coast province. London – British prime minister Heath is expected to ask the Irish Republic prime minister today to tighten security on the Republic’s side of a 260-mile border with Northern Ireland. Heath’s meeting with the Republic leader Jack Lynch near London in an attempt to halt the growing violence in the British Province. Lynch says his country’s security forces are capable …

Dollar trading today against the West German mark represents a nearly eight and one-half per cent upward revaluation of the mark. The dollar now has dropped nearly to the trading level registered when President Nixon announced emergency measures to rescue the dollar. Chattanooga, Tennessee – An explosion is reported to have blasted a hole in a portable classroom at a Chattanooga, Tennessee high school. The explosion cause no injuries, but shattered about two dozen windows f a nearby main school building and hurled debris as far as 150 yards. A federal judge has ordered the Chattanooga schools to eliminate segregation. The schools are scheduled to open Tuesday under an order that includes widespread busing. Police say they have no leads in the blast. Bend, Oregon – Search parties planned to comb a central Oregon mountain today for a 15-year-old girl missing and feared dead.
