Farming Equipment and Methods

Photograph of 2 row Bermuda sprig planter (rear-side view) developed by George W. Stokus and Soil Conservation Service technicians at Madill, Oklahoma for Marshall County Soil and Conservation District supervisors. An old Oliver 2-row lister planter was used. Planter parts and listers removed and replaced with 2 shovel plows. Foot piece of plows jointed and will trip if rock is struck. Hopper built of a 1” x 12” board is mounted on [unclear] from horses attached to the plow front. [remainder of text very faded and crossed out].

Photograph of a Soil and Water Conservation District [SWCD] operator is trying to get an early seedbed prepared to plant spinach. 5 tons per acre can be produced on the land if not for the lack of adequate drainage limiting it to 1 crop in 5 to 8 years. Seedbed preparation is costly. When the Cache 566 Project is completed this land will be drained with a good rotation followed. OK-1541-11.

Photograph of flood damage. Flood damage from high water on the Arkansas River. The river changed its course causing the complete loss of 350 acres of good bottom land. The land lost was not just damaged but was completely washed away when the river cut across this filed. The river stayed over the field for 2 weeks and is at a high level for the sixth week.
