Interim Report on Exploration in the Yellow Cat Area, Grand County, Utah

From introduction: This report summarizes the results of diamond-drill and wagon-drill exploration by the U. S. Geological Survey in the Yellow Cat area from October 9, 1951, to May 22, 1952. The Yellow Cat area is about 10 miles southeast of Thompsons, Grand County, Utah. It is accessable by two graded roads which leave U. S. Highway 50 at points 5 miles east of Thompsons and 7 miles west of Cisco, Utah. A sampling plant and purchasing depot, belonging to the United States Vanadium Co., is at Thompsons. The explored ground includes about 8 square miles principally in T. 22 S., R. 22 E., and the northern part of T. 23 S., R. 22 E., Salt Lake meridian (fig. 1). Altitudes in the area range from about 4, 600 feet to 5, 100 feet (datum is assumed but is approximately correct), and the relief is moderate.

Investigation of Subsurface Isorad Methods, Temple Mountain, San Rafael District, Utah (open access)

Investigation of Subsurface Isorad Methods, Temple Mountain, San Rafael District, Utah

From abstract: The subsurface isorad method is an attempt to locate areas favorable for uranium ores by the use of contour maps which show localities having greater radioactivity. The construction of isorad maps entails the measurement of the area under the curve of a gamma-ray logo The figures obtained indicate relative amounts of gamma radiation and are used to locate the isorad contours. This work was started at Temple Mountain in the San Rafael Swell area during the spring of 1952. The purpose of this investigation is to determine the most effective and economic hole spacing for subsurface isorad work.

The Ecology of Stream and Riparian Habitats of the Great Basin Region

"The purpose of this profile is to summarize the ecological information available for and relevant to stream and riparian habitats of the Great Basin. The Great Basin comprises the northern half of the Basin and Range physiographic province and covers most of Nevada and western Utah and portions of California, Oregon, and Idaho. The entire basin actually consists of numerous subbasins and mountain ranges which present an extremely diverse physical setting" (p. iii).

Uranium Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance of the Moab NTMS Quadrangle, Utah/Colorado, Including Concentrations of Forty-Three Additional Elements (open access)

Uranium Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance of the Moab NTMS Quadrangle, Utah/Colorado, Including Concentrations of Forty-Three Additional Elements

Partial abstract: "During the summers of 1976, 1977, and 1978, 442 water and 1755 sediment samples were collected from 1801 locations within the 19 400 km2 area of the Moab quadrangle, Utah and Colorado, by private contractors for the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. Water samples were collected from streams, springs, and wells; wet and dry sediment samples were collected both from stream channels and from springs. Each water sample was analyzed for 13 elements, including uranium, and each sediment sample was analyzed for 43 elements, including uranium, thorium, and vanadium. All field and analytical data are listed in the appendixes of this report" (p. 1).

National Uranium Resource Evaluation: Delta Quadrangle, Utah

The Delta 1°x2° Quadrangle, Utah contains rocks which range in age from the Precambrian through the Holocene. It lies in the eastern part of the Basin and Range Province, approximately 85 mi southwest of Salt Lake City. Most known uranium resource potential lies in four geographic environments in two geographic areas. Favorable environments are: (1) Tertiary tuffaceous sandstone and conglomerate epigenetic disseminated deposits; (2) volcanic hydroallogenic environments containing uranium-mineralized altered tephra in the beryllium tuff member of the Miocene Spor Mountain Formation; (3) pipes or small diatreme structures in the Paleozoic limestones and quartzites on Spor Mountain, defined as Tertiary volcanogenic hydroallogenic environments; and, (4) alluvial-lacustrine placer environments, on the east and west sides of the Deep Creek Range adjacent to the quartz monzonite Ibapah stock. The significant volume of Miocene rhyolites and tuffs in the Quadrangle contain uncommonly large abundances of uranium and thorium.
