Mite

The 1st printing of The Mite was produced in 1891, and was at the time the smallest book in the world printed with movable type. This 2nd printing was produced in 1893, and a third printing was done in 1896. The text, a collection of facts and information, is supplemented with various illustrations. In 1896, Salmin of Padova, Italy, printed their Galileo A Madama Christina Di Lorena, which supplanted The Mite as the smallest book in the world printed with movable type. It may still, however, be the smallest book printed in England with movable type.

[The Guest Book]

The guest-book: in which may be recorded the coming and the going of guests, with pages for autographs, incidents, and sketches pertaining to pleasant visits, social calls, and other gatherings designed and illustrated by Annie F. Cox. This book was part of the private library of Mrs. Delas A. Blodgett, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Bound in olive green cloth over boards; gilt lettering and brown-stamped decorations. The signatures on the first page include that of Delas A. Blodgett, Daisy P. Blodgett of Mackinac Island and Grand Rapids, Michigan. The guest book also includes verses, encouraging friends and visitors to "leave here in the book sacred to friendship some recording of your tarrying." Many pages of autographs are interspersed throughout the book with illustrated half-titles. On the first page for signatures is the inscription, "Perfect equality of rights for women - civil & political - is the demand of yours gratefully, Susan B. Anthony - Rochester - N. Y. In this lovely home from Nov. 22 to 24 - 1897 - equality reigns!!"

Early edition of Heidi by Johanna Spyri, translated by Helen B. Dole. The cover of the book is made of a light green fabric with darker greens for the title, names, and illustrations. The illustrations on the title are in two parts, one which is flowers is boxed in with the title and the names of the author and translator. The other illustration is set above the title in another box and shows a forest of evergreen trees in front of some mountains. Nestled in the trees is a small cabin. On the title page is the title of the book as well as the names of the author, translator, and publishers. Also on the title page are notes handwritten in faded pencil about the illustrator and publisher. On the opposite page is a black and white illustration captioned: The hut of the Alm-Uncle." In the illustration is a small cabin tucked into a grove of tall evergreen trees. Sitting on a bench outside of the cabin is an old man holding a stick. On the second page of the book is a small illustration of a girl, Heidi, walking in hand with a woman up a mountain. Page 66 …
