The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Harold Leon. Leon graduated from the Army Air Forces Cadet School at Kelly Field in San Antonio in April of 1942. He was assigned to the 12th Bomb Group, 83rd bomb Squadron, a B-25 outfit at Esler Field in Louisiana. He worked as the squadron navigator. In July of 1942 he traveled to Moascar in Egypt to a base the British had established. He completed 55 missions and his group helped stop the advance of German General Erwin Rommel. Leon provides details of their combative interactions with the Germans and their travels through Africa and Italy in 1943. Leon also served in the Korean War and describes navigation training. He was discharged around 1952.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Edward H. Hill. Hill was born 29 November 1918 In Los Angeles. He was inducted into the Army in 1940 and sent to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey where he became an enlisted instructor at the Signal Corps Replacement Training Center. He then entered Officers Candidate School and ninety days later was commissioned a second lieutenant. After being commissioned he applied for pilot training. After taking preflight and basic flight training, he washed out during advanced flight training in 1944. He was then sent to Signal Corps Officer’s school. Upon completion of the training he was assigned as Cryptographic Security Officer for the 31st Infantry Division stationed on Mindanao and was there when Japan surrendered. Returning to the United States in January 1946 he entered the Air National Guard and in 1950 was called into active duty. He remained in the Air Force until his retirement in 1967.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Robert Enright. Enright joined the Navy in 1943. In 1944, he served as a yeoman at Pearl Harbor. He recalls observing the work being done on USS Oklahoma (BB-37) and USS Arizona (BB-39). He volunteered for sea duty, and served with the 24th Transport Division aboard USS Callaway (APA-35), an attack transport manned by the US Coast Guard. Enright recalls supporting the invasions on Saipan, Leyte, and at Lingayen Gulf. He recalls the ship being hit by a kamikaze in January of 1945. Around April, Enright was transferred to USS Olmsted (APA-188), transporting troops and supplies in support of amphibious operations, noting the close calls by kamikaze aircraft at Okinawa. He returned to the US in May of 1945 and received his discharge.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Thomas Goffe. Goffe joined the Army Air Forces in February 1943 and trained as a parachute rigger. He was assigned to the 434th Troop Carrier Group and shipped to England in October. He recalls the preparations ahead of the Normandy invasion and delivering gasoline to units in the field during the Battle of the Bulge. When the war ended, Goffe returned to the US in November and was discharged.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Forest Hill. Hill joined the Army Air Forces in early 1943. He completed Link Trainer School in Illinois, and served as an instructor at cadet training facilities in Greenville, Brady, and San Antonio, Texas. Around late 1944, Hill was assigned to administrative duties on Mindoro Island, with an A-26 bomber group. In August of 1945, they traveled to Okinawa. He then served with occupation forces in Tokyo, Japan where he oversaw a small library and shared radio news with the troops. He returned to the US and received his discharge in January of 1946.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Kenneth Shaub. Shaub joined the Marine Corps right after the attack on Pearl Harbor and trained at Parris Island and then Quantico as a radio operator. He was then assigned to a tank battalion in the 4th Marine Division. He went to the Marshall Islands and mariana Islands campaigns. Between campaigns, he trained at Maui. Shaub served in a Sherman tank during the Mariana campaign and relates a few anecdotes about combat on Saipan. When Shaub went to Iwo Jima, he was with a headquarters company. He shares several anecdotes from his experiences on Iwo Jima.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with James and John Bowen, Earl Steele, and Don Stoll. The Bowen brothers and Earl Steele share their experiences aboard USS South Dakota (BB-57) during WWII. The brothers served aboard the ship together. They were still aboard when the ship was deployed to the Atlantic. Ingram interviews Don Stoll on 3 December 1989. Stoll served as an engineer on the captain’s gig aboard USS South Dakota. He was aboard from 1943 through 1946. Stoll was injured severely in a bomb blast.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with John Cannon. Cannon served as coxswain of an LCM at Buckner Bay during the initial assault on Okinawa, delivering food and supplies to the beach. LCMs were able to navigate the coral, no matter the tide, so Cannon worked around the clock, laying smoke screens at night and dodging flak and kamikazes during the day. After the war ended, Cannon stayed another six months, delivering cargo from one ship to another. He returned home in February 1946 and became a truck driver.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Billy Tune. Tune joined the Navy right after he finished high school in May 1943. He was assigned to USS President Polk (AP-103) and was aboard it when it was torpedoed. He somehow managed to get ashore at Tarawa and stayed with the Marines there for five days. Then he wound up at New Caledonia as a stevedore until he entered the hospital with asthma.

Stautner was a German-American professional American football coach and defensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys.

Murchinson passed away on March 30, 1987. Don Meredith was an American football quarterback, spending all nine seasons of his professional playing career (1960–1968) with the Dallas Cowboys. Meredith passed away on December 5, 2010. Schramm was an American football executive who was the original president and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys franchise. Schramm passed away on July 15, 2003.
