A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from J. D. Sandefer, Jr., Chairman, Board of Trustees of Hardin-Simmons University, Breckenridge, Texas dated March 22, 1945. Sandefer announces a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Hardin-Simmons University to be held on March 29 advising of a report to be made by Raymond Foy regarding the search for a president and a report by O. D. Dillingham regarding a campus plot on the future development of the University. Sandefer advises that due to travel restrictions this meeting might take the place of the annual meeting held each year in June. Sandefer requests that Carswell reply by mail stating that he will be present.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Callie R. Bevill dated November 22, 1948. Bevill advises of her approval of the proposed Planning Commission, H. S. U. Ex. Students Association.

A letter written to T. N. Carswell from Raymond W. Foy dated November 22, 1948. Foy advises Carswell that the organization of the Hardin-Simmons University Ex-Students Association looks like a step in the right direction. This correspondence is typewritten at the top left of the page of the letter sent to The Executive Committee, Ex-Students Association and HSU regarding the proposal to establish the HSU Ex-Students Association as a permanent unit and to create a Planning Commission.

A letter dated March 22, 1944 and addressed to the Selective Service Texas State Headquarters registering a complaint regarding the Clerk of Sierra Blanca Draft Board No. 1 accusing the clerk of telling the community that he and other registrants have a venereal disease.

A letter addressed to the State Director for Selective Service, Austin 17, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, CAS, El Paso, Texas dated April 22, 1944. Carswell makes a request for a supply of cover sheets and examination forms that failed to be included in the forwarded supplies.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Milt Phillips, Department Adjutant, The American Legion, Department of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, dated May 22, 1942. Phillips advises that he was given an assurance from Fred Young that Carswell would provide information on the standing of J. W. Reid as a lawyer, that he accepted a fee to secure a divorce for a soldier, the son of a splendid legionnaire, but an allottment made to the girl and was later cancelled has not yet been stopped.

A letter written to Legionnaire T. N. Carswell, Fifth Division Commander, The American Legion, from Harry E. Rather, Department Adjutant, Austin, Texas, dated October 22, 1942. Rather expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell in which he wished him success in his new responsibility and assures Carswell of his comprehension of the big job ahead. He confirms the supplies requested by Carswell are being sent under separate cover.

A letter written to Miss Velma Parsons, Austin, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, dated October 22, 1942. Carswell expresses his appreciation for being included in the dinner invitation at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Noe.

A form letter addressed to Commander from Charlie Maisel, Department Commander, Phillips, Texas, dated October 22, 1942. Form letter from Maisel to Commanders elected for the coming year. Pep talk regarding the extra work required as leader due to the war. A request that the Posts assist the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine in their recruiting program. Advisement that their Civilian Defense program will be enlarged, their Rehabilitation program will function; that they are preparing to take in their own sons.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Wyatt W. Lipscomb, Albany, Texas, dated November 22, 1942. Lipscomb advises of the enclosed clipping from one of their two local newspapers of an article written by himself relative to the proper consideration of Armistice. He complains that the other newspaper destroyed the intent of the article by leaving out the last paragraph. Lipscomb extends an invitation to Carswell and to his wife to attend an event to be held at their Legion Hall adding that he hopes his gasoline will not be too limited for the trip. Enclosure includes: "November 11, 1942" by Wyatt W. Lipscomb. Article printed by The Shackelford County Leader, Chas. A. Fryar, Publisher, Albany, Texas. A letter written to Major C.A. Dawson, 17th Battalion, Texas Defense Guard, Throckmorton, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Major, 10th Battalion, Texas Defense Guard, dated April 22, 1941. Carswell replies to a letter from Dawson and advises of the local Guard's intention to use the full uniform for officers. He provides examples of how the items that are needed to complete a uniform can be purchased frugally.

A letter addressed to the Commanding Officer, Camp Barkeley, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Immediate Past Post Commander, Abilene, Texas, dated September 22, 1941. Carswell recommends Mrs. C. B. Marchbanks of De Leon, Texas as an applicant for employment at Camp Barkeley listing her qualifications from when she was a member of the Music Faculty of Hardin-Simmons University some years ago.

Johnson expresses his appreciation for the nice letter but with a reminder that he is not infallible in regard to buying and selling securities then discusses the market and advises regarding purchases. A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from R. H. Johnson, R. H. Johnson & Co. Investment Securities, New York 5, N. Y., dated January 22, 1946. Johnson expresses his regrets in not seeing Carswell when he was in Abilene. He advises that they are glad to have his account and that he is interested, indeed, in the new Abilene bonds and other loans, and requests any help Carswell can give to them towards securing this issue.

Letter from Chas H. Tompkins to W. J. Bryan sending him well wishes as he heard that Mr. Bryan was in the hospital. He also informs Mr. Bryan that Mrs. Tompkins has been severely ill recently and this limited his abilities to travel out of the state.

Letter from McDonald Meachum to Senator W. J. Bryan thanking Mr. Bryan for the clipping he sent and sharing some of the memories it brought back to him. Mr. Meachum also discusses some of the events that occurred in his life along with the details of his previous travels.

Letter from John A. Lomax to Senator W. J. Bryan informing him that the previous story he wrote about Mr. Bryan was included in a publication. He also informs Mr. Bryan that he is writing another story about him and asks him to review the previous one for correctness and provide any additional information he may.
