Interview with Dalila Dolenz, a nurse and civil rights activist from Fort Worth, Texas. In the interview, she discusses her work, activism and interaction with Cesar Chavez

Interview with Ricardo De Anda, a civil rights attorney from Laredo, Texas. In his interview, he discusses his early life and education, political activism, the Chicano movement, Black Panthers, and working on the Ramsey Muniz campaign. He also talks about his work with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) and legal cases related to school segregation.

Interview with Robert Medrano, businessman and elected official from Dallas, Texas. Medrano is the son of Francisco "Pancho" Medrano and brother of Ricardo Medrano, also local politicians. In his interview, Medrano discusses his his upbringing in the "Little Mexico" section of Dallas, his family's political activities, and Chicano activism in the 1960s and 1970s.

Interview with Joreen Waddell, a teacher from Huntsville, Texas. In her interview, Waddell discusses her childhood, racial discrimination and segregation in Huntsville, community activism, civil rights organizations, school integration, and the HA-YOU (Huntsville Action for Youth) student organization

Richard Perkins studied music as a student at Prairie View A&M. In 1968, he and fellow choir members were invited to perform for Rev. Martin Luther King in Memphis, Tennessee, two weeks before his assassination. In his interview, Perkins discussed segregation, the role of music, and a comparison of the black experience in the U.S. and Europe.

Peggy Fontenette Yates was born in Houston in 1946 and grew up in Pleasantville, a historic African American neighborhood of Houston. She discusses her mom's involvement in the community through civic organizations and her brother's experience at the University of Houston as one of the school's first Black students. Ms. Yates also shared her business ventures as she owned and ran Fontenette's Restaurant in the 1970s, and her experience in nursing school and becoming a nurse subsequently. Currently, she is a member of SHAPE's Elders Institute of Wisdom, and is involved in the community through her project Woman's Roots prison aftercare program.

Antonio Jimenez was born in Mexico and moved to the U.S. during the 1980s. He worked at Cactus Feeders then Swift, a meat packing plant in Cactus, Texas. While at Swift, Jimenez felt that the United Food & Commercial Workers was not representing the meat packing plant’s workers well. Thus, he and others, inspired by Trini Gamez and Coco Medina, launched a local union that eventually initiated a strike that brought better conditions. He eventually left Swift and the independent local union when he felt his family was threatened by United Food & Commercial Workers operatives. He was sued by the United Food & Commercial Workers, but the suit was thrown out. Jimenez began a successful automotive body shop.

Ebelardo “Abe” Lopez was born in La Mesa, Texas to a home mother maker and father who drove large trucks and farmed part time. Once graduating from high school in La Mesa, he was sent by his parents and the farmer his dad worked for to Texas Tech University in Lubbock to sign up for classes. He entered Texas Tech, left to join the military, then returned to finish his degree. Once finishing his degree in history and leaving a graduate program in history, he obtained a job as a probation officer in Amarillo, Texas. There, he was inspired to go to law school at George Washington University. Upon returning, Lopez worked in a privet practice then as an assistant DA. Lopez was asked by many to run for state district judge, which he did. He won several times from the late 1980s to 2008 as a Democrat in a heavily Republican region.

Interview with Frances Rizo, a community activist and civic volunteer from Dallas, Texas. In her interview, Rizo discusses her family background, experiencing discrimination in school, civic engagement, politics, and working in broadcasting.

Interview with Israel Reyna, a lawyer and community activist from Laredo, Texas. In his interview, Reyna discusses his family history, residential and school segregation, student activism, civil rights organization Mexican Americans for Democratic Action (MADA), La Raza Unida, the Chicano movement, and elections in South Texas.

Interview with Pauline Gasca Valenciano, a civil rights activist from Fort Worth, Texas. She became involved in politics in the early 1960s, when she volunteered for Viva Kennedy. She later worked with the Democratic party, LULAC, and the American GI Forum. She was an advocate for migrant farm workers and honored by the National Association of Human Rights for her work in civil rights.

Seema describes each picture of the Jackal and the Crow, a picture-based stimulus task. She tells the whole story, and then tells the story from the jackal’s perspective. Before being recorded, Seema mentioned that she was familiar with the story. The recording was made at her home at the very beginning of Rakchham village.

Ravinder Singh Mathus and Devi Chand describe the functions they perform at Rakchham’s main temple. They are the interpreter and oracle of the local deities, respectively. The recording was made next to Shiv's temple in Rakchham, during a ritual break.

Mr. Jackson was raised in segregated Hearne, Texas, but spent part of his youth in Los Angeles and Houston, where he was exposed to integration (at least compared to his hometown) and civil rights activism. In Houston, he became involved in SNCC; later, he moved to Austin with the goal of starting a chapter there. Mr. Jackson talks about the breakfast and day care programs he ran as the founder of SNCC in Austin. He also talks about his collaboration with Anglo and Mexican American activists and politicians. Mr. Jackson also discussed the role of children education aid programs in civil rights activism.

Sylvia Herrera talks about growing up in East Austin; black-brown relations, the differences in education; environmental justice, PODER; Teatro Chicano; and Vietnam protests;

Roberto Morales is one of the children of Genoveva Morales, a longtime education activist in Uvalde and the lead plaintiff in Morales v. Shannon, a MALDEF-led class action suit that pushed the Uvalde ISD to ensure the desegregation of the local schools. Morales talked about his mother's character and her relationships with other activists in the area, including her trip to Crystal City to meet Cesar Chavez. Morales also talked about his own experience with discrimination in the Uvalde schools, and the legacy of her mother -- a middle school was renamed after her in the last couple of years.

Interview with Becky Moeller, from Corpus Christi, Texas. In her interview, Moeller gives an overview of the labor movement & her prominent role in it. She covers her early life, working and becoming an union activist, labor unions and segregation, women's rights and gender equality, and the local political environment of Corpus Christi.
