The second page of the newsletter, faculty news, Dr. Jack Davis and Dr. William McCarter receive an award from the Texas Center for Educational Technology for "leadership, innovation and dedicated service to Texas children."

A North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts newsletter for the Fall Semester, 1996, Vol. 7 No. 3. The newsletter features an article, "Art History: Not Just Art In The Dark," Defining Art History. This newsletters examines art history as being one of the four foundational disciplines of discipline-based art education, along with art production, art criticism and aesthetics. Art history provides the historical context in which all artistic achievement is considered.

A newspaper clipping featuring an article on Beverly Fletcher, a women who claims partial responsibility for the artistic achievement in the Fort Worth school district and the national recognition such achievement as received. Fletcher believes that intensive exposure to the art has helped many school children excel in their education, citing that test scores at Greenbriar Elementary School after three years of disciplined-based art education, has moved up from 47th place in the district to the third.

In regards in the fact that the Art Museum of South Texas is submitting a proposal through Corpus Christi Art Foundation, Inc. for funds to support educational programs of the Museum and that NTIEVA, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, supports and endorses the proposal and urges the Commission to take thoughtful consideration in the funding. McCarter and Davis go into detail about what NTIEVA does and what their program DBAE, discipline-art based education does for teachers, students and districts they work with. McCarter and Davis finish their letter saying how their continued collaboration and support in every way makes it possible to formulate art education initiatives and additional learning opportunities.

The letter discusses key details about the upcoming Getty Education Institute's 1997 national conference, "Educating for the Workplace, through the Arts," from January 9, through January 11, 1997. Duke includes in the letter that the Getty Education Institute has made special arrangements for the guests involvement, offering tours and complimentary meals. Attached to the letter are details of the conference's agenda for January 11th. A letter to Jack Davis is present, inviting him personally to be involved in the Getty Education conference as they wish to discuss implementing education reform policies as well as establishing the arts as a positive force in educational change.

In regards to Berry's upcoming participation in attending the Education Institute's National Conference, "Education For the Workplace Through the Arts" from January 9th - 10th, 1997 and the DBAE, discipline-based art education, leadership forum that follows on January 11th. The DBAE forum will discuss the mobilization of DBAE to a national scale and elicit ideas about the best way to mobilize such practitioners.

The letter describes the work done by Davis and McCarter, through the use of the Edward and Betty Marcus Foundation grant, to produce portfolios using images from the five museums that are apart of the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts consortium. The grant allowed them to produce 500 copies of the portfolio, which were given at no cost to the schools in the consortium for educational purposes, however, because of the popularity of the portfolio and the limited number of the original publication they have been contacted by vendors who have interest in producing the portfolio commercially. Davis and McCarter write about what a great opportunity this could mean when it comes to resources for the continued work of the Institute, yet one issues is that the Museum has to give them written consent to reproduce the images and content.

A North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts newsletter for the Summer 1996, Vol. 7 No. 2. The newsletter features an article, "Japanese Art And Culture: Sun & Star 1996," a festival where teachers, students and parents in Texas will have firsthand experience in art and culture of the Japanese by attending the Sun & Star 1996. The festival, worth $10 million, will include exhibitions of art, transnational dance and theater performances and educational programs.

The fellowships provide support to emerging scholars who will shape the future of art education.
