Edwards gave Herrera's name as a reference when Higgins and her husband expressed doubts as to his supposed credentials, including a number of prestigious universities attended and degrees awarded. Higgins doubts Edwards's future plans of becoming a cardio-vascular doctor due to his tendency to spend most of his time in restaurants, drinking coffee and smoking. Higgins includes a photograph of Edwards.

Letter from H. Darrell Hay to John J. Herrera (including envelope) requesting Herrera's assistance in filing a suit against the attorney who represented Hay in his murder trial who had promised, after Hay was convicted to prison, to send Hay's possessions to his wife at the attorney's own expense. The attorney then did not forward the possessions on and was subsequently asking for compensation to do so, for which Hay could not pay.

Letter from Malcolm D. McLean, a professor of Spanish and history at the University of Texas at Arlington, offering John J. Herrera a chance to order McLean's upcoming book. McLean explains that he spoke with someone earlier in the month who was a descendent of Francisco Ruiz, who features in the book prominently, but neglected to note that man's name and address.
