From introduction: This report describes the program of research on mineralogy and petrography of certain uraniferous vein deposits in the Boulder batholith of western Montana.

Abstract: Uranium associated with peat humus was discovered in a boggy meadow in the Sierra Nevada of Kern County, California, in the fall of 1955.

From purpose and scope: This report is designed to summarize the available information on the geology and ore reserves of the uranium deposits. Detailed geological work has been confined largely to those areas which contain the more promising uranium occurrences with at least 80 percent of such work being concentrated in the Sierra Ancha district.

From introduction: The primary purpose of this report is to record the bases chosen in setting the Commission's policy on processing charges to assure that individual charges are on a consistent basis in conformance with the policy. Secondly, it may aid reactor operators in estimating the AEC processing charges for a variety of fuels and reactor conditions. It may also be of interest to potential chemical processors by showing the approach followed in developing these charges.

Abstract: A procedure is given for the concentration of gadolinium, dysprosium, and samarium in yttrium oxide by extraction of the thiocyanates with tributyl phosphate. Concentration of these elements up to 80-fold was obtained. Results are given on the effects of ammonium thiocynate and tributyl phosphate concentrations, as well as pH, temperature and sample size on the separation. Analyses of standard yttrium oxide samples after concentration of these rare earths are in good agreement with results obtained by direct spectrographic analyses.

Abstract: "A radioactive tracer, Fe^59, was used to determine the disposition of iron as a result of the excitation of a U3O8 matrix in a d - c arc. Two different spectrographic procedures, both using carrier distillation excitation techniques, were compared as to the percent of iron volatilized, the percent of iron diffused into the electrode and the percent of iron remaining in the residual charge."

The contemplated use of sodium in place of bismuth in the secondary system of the Four-Inch Loop at Brookhaven National Laboratory requires a re-evaluation of the loops design. This report covers those design changes deemed necessary for safe operation of the system. It also includes an evaluation of the possible hazards involved and methods of coping with them. No attempt is made here to cover the hazards of sodium-bismuth reaction.
