Natlog: a Lightweight Logic Programming Language with a Neuro-symbolic Touch
Article that introduces Natlog, a lightweight Logic Programming language, sharing Prolog's unification-driven execution model, but with a simplified syntax and semantics. The authors' proof-of-concept Natlog implementation is tightly embedded in the Python-based deep-learning ecosystem with focus on content-driven indexing of ground term datasets. As an overriding of the authors symbolic indexing algorithm, the same function can be delegated to a neural network, serving ground facts to Natlog's resolution engine. The open-source implementation is available as a Python package at t https://pypi.org/project/natlog/.

Developmental programming of DNA methylation and gene expression patterns is associated with extreme cardiovascular tolerance to anoxia in the common snapping turtle
This article explores DNA methylation's role in the regulation of gene expression in reptiles. Results show that embryonic hypoxia programs DNA methylation and gene expression patterns and that these changes are associated with enhanced cardiac anoxia tolerance in snapping turtles later in life.

Thermally Tunable Acoustic Beam Splitter Based on Poly(vinyl alcohol) Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) Hydrogel
Article demonstrating a thermally tunable acoustic beam splitter using a poly(vinyl alcohol) poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogel (PVA-pNIPAM). The nature of PVA-pNIPAM hydrogel offers exceptional temperature-dependent physical properties due to its phase transition around its lower critical solution temperature. The acoustic impedance of the hydrogel can be tuned below, above, or matched to that of water by changing the environmental temperature. An acoustic wave propagating in water can be split into transmitted and reflected components by the PVA-pNIPAM hydrogel slab on varying its angle of incidence. The intensity ratio between the reflected and the transmitted componence can be adjusted by tuning the temperature of the medium. The acoustic beam can be entirely reflected at a temperature corresponding to the matched impedance between hydrogel and water. The beam-splitting behavior was observed for acoustic waves from both a monochromatic wave and broadband pulse source. In addition, the phase of beam split pulses can be reversed by selecting the hydrogel’s operating temperature.

Process and Materials Development for Additive Manufacturing (AM) of Tungsten-Based Alloys with Superior High Temperature Performance and Good Room Temperature Ductility
Data management plan for the grant "Process and Materials Development for Additive Manufacturing (AM) of Tungsten-Based Alloys with Superior High Temperature Performance and Good Room Temperature Ductility." Research on CALPHAD simulations will be conducted to optimize the chemical composition of tungsten based alloys towards 3D printability while boosting mechanical performance through solid solution and dispersion strengthening. This will followed by powder prototyping to validate the simulation results experimentally and to finalize the chemical composition of interest. Process parameter optimization and post-process heat treatment design will help to achieve optimal low-to-high temperature mechanical properties. Mechanical testing and microstructural characterization will be performed to establish process-microstructure-property relationships.

Modulating 3D Cellular Connectivity Via Spatially-Controlled Programmable Bonding
Data management plan for the grant "Modulating 3D Cellular Connectivity Via Spatially-Controlled Programmable Bonding." This project seeks to demonstrate proof-of-concept for technology that allows one to systematically place cells on substrates to create complex 3D assemblies with precise control over individual cellular interactions. The technology generated within this proposal will open new avenues for studying multicellular communication pathways, stem cell differentiation, and understanding developmental processes. Spatially-defined cell-cell communication plays a critical role in numerous disease and developmental processes that include osteoarthritic degeneration, cancer metastasis, and organ regeneration.

Collaborative Research: A Systematic and Comprehensive Study of Black Hole-Driven Turbulence in Massive Galactic Systems
Data management plan for the grant, "Collaborative Research: A Systematic and Comprehensive Study of Black Hole-Driven Turbulence in Massive Galactic Systems." This research team has developed a technique to measure gas turbulence in systems hosting giant central black holes and will directly evaluate the viability of this mechanism using a large sample of galaxies. This project will deliver a more complete view of the “feedback” provided by accreting SMBHs, leading to a better understanding of the black hole-host galaxy relation. More specifically, it will directly probe the energetics of the intra-cluster, circum-galactic, and interstellar media of massive early-type galaxies.
