Mr. and Mrs. Harry Matthews bought the tape recorder so they could send tapes to their son Walter who was in the armed forces in Korea. The first tape made such a big hit that Matthews decided to send tapes to strangers in foreign countries, which then prompted others to do the same. World Tape Pals has grown to 3500 members in 65 countries.
