A letter from Hamilton K. Redway in Baltimore, Maryland to his wife, Loriette Redway, on October 28, 1865. The letter is regarding Hamilton Redway's business in Maryland and in Washington D.C. Redway's reason for being in Washington is to appear before the board to gain appointment in the army. Redway tells Loriette that permission had been granted for him to appear before the board on October 2, but he had not received notice. He planned to sit before the new board on Monday of the following week. Redway expresses his affection for his wife and family, and explains that he would return to his family did he not feel that his country needed him. Redway asks his wife to keep his business to herself. Also included with this item is the envelope in which the letter was sent. The envelope is addressed to Mrs. H. K. Redway in Mannsville, New York.

Inventory and inspection report of unserviceable ordnance and ordnance stores issued to Capt. Hamilton K. Redway's company. The stores that were listed and inspected were: four saddles, ten sabre belts, six bridles and curb bits, and fifteen saddle blankets. With the listed items, this report also includes the amount of time these items were in use, commanding officer's remarks on the item, as well as the item's condition and disposition. The report is signed by both Capt. Hamilton K. Redway and Capt. Ira W. Claflin while they were stationed at Kelly's Creek in West Virginia. It is dated February 8, 1865.

Morning reports of Company F for the years 1864 and 1865. The monthly reports begin in September 1864 and end in July 1865. These reports detail the company's station; the number of soldiers on active duty, special duty, daily duty, or extra duty; the soldier's rank within the company; the number of men who were sick, arrested,confined, or on detached leave; as well as those who were with and without leave. The reports also note the number of serviceable and unserviceable horses. Included along with the monthly reports was a remarks page where the daily happenings of the company were recorded. These remarks listed men who were on furlough, in the hospital, or those who were missing from duty. Hamilton K. Redway and his company were stationed at Camp Piatt and Kelly's Creek during the months the reports were recorded in this book. Redway's signature appears several times in the morning reports.

Letter to the Paymaster General that transportation was furnished to Baltimore MD for Joseph Freeman at the cost of $2.06.

Hospital admittance certificate for Privt. E. A. Edwards of Company "F," 1st regiment, N. Y. Veteran's Cavalry. The certificate states that Edwards was admitted to the hospital on July 14, 1864 and should report to Harper Ferry on December 6, 1864, the day of his release. The document also includes information about Edwards' pay which was mustered for the months of July, August, September, and October, but was not yet paid to the Private.

General orders no.1 announces the department staff and details that communications should be addressed to the corresponding heads of different staff departments.

Special orders from Major General Hunter which detail that Farrier W. H. Shepard is to report to Capt. Nelson Hopkins A.Q.M., in Hagerstown, Maryland for duty. Hopkins was part of Company "F," N. Y. Vet. Calvary.
