McLaughlin expresses her appreciation for Carswell's answer to her letter "but most of all for contacting John". She advises that she had a letter from John in which he said he had talked with Carswell and then explains why John needed to talk with a man of experience in order to "analyze matters" with him and that Carswell will never know how she appreciates this kindness.
