Chickasaw Nation's Bloomfield Academy
Photograph of Bloomfield Academy school for girls near Achille in Bryan County. Chickasaw Governor Douglas Henry Johnston was a student of the academy, and served as the school superintendent from 1884 to 1897. According to information related to the photograph, "Professor Henshaw taught there 18 years," and the school burned in January 1914. Photo may have been taken by George W. Moore, Denison, Texas. If Moore is the photographer, the photo was taken before March 2, 1911. Moore died on this date. The photo could have been taken before 1904 as several of Moore's Bloomfield Academy photographs were exhibited at the 1904 St. Louis, MO World's Fair.
