Patent for a new and improved valve-gear. This design "is especially designed for locomotive-engines; and the invention consists of a combination of rockers, shafts, arms, levers, links, and connecting-rods worked from the cross-head of the locomotive exclusively, and so arranged as to give the valve a correct motion" (lines 7-13).

Patent for a new and improved well cover. This design "is to provide a new and improved cover for wells, cisterns, &c., which cover is so constructed and arranged that it can be moved back by stepping on a step in front of it, and is automatically closed when the pressure is removed" (lines 8-13).

Patent for an improved invention providing a convertible plow and cultivator. Illustrations included.

Patent for a new and improved gate. This design "has for its object to provide a device of this character which shall be cheap and simple in its construction, one that may be easily operated, and yet be positive in its engagement with the latch to prevent it from being opened by cattle, &c." (lines 8-14).

Patent for a new and improved blinder. This design "is to provide improved patterns for bridle-blinkers whereby the latter can be made cheaply by utilizing waste scraps of leather" (lines 8-11).

Patent for a new and improved planter. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the main frame . . . provided with the hopper, covers, and transporting-wheel, of the vibrating-lever pivoted at its lower end to the side of the frame, and pivoted at its middle to the lateral arm, secured to the feed-slide and operated by means of the pitman, which is connected at its lower end to the crank-axle, the upper end thereof being pivoted to the upper end of the lever" (lines 17-26).

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design "relates to improvements in that class of car-couplings in which the link is held in the draw-head by a tongue engaging the link; and it consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts" (lines 7-11).

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design "is to provide a cheap, durable, and simple car-coupling, which shall be automatic and positive in its action, and which uses the ordinary link and takes the draft in the same way as the common pin, and which will also fit any car, and will not get out of order from being battered. It consists, mainly, in the peculiar construction of a coupling device, in combination with a spring for holding it to the open or closed position, and co-operating with the same for automatic action" (lines 11-22).

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists in "[a] hand-lever and two chains as used in combination with the spring-latch catches. . . . [It further consists in a] brake-lever attached to main lever, a spring and spiral to hold said main lever in place, and a chain to main lever attached to the spring latch-catches aforesaid of each draw-head" (lines 53-59).
