FLUX DISTRIBUTIONS AND LEAKAGE CURRENTS FOR SRE, P-16 (open access)

FLUX DISTRIBUTIONS AND LEAKAGE CURRENTS FOR SRE, P-16

BS>Two-group, two-region criticality calculations were made for 10 and 11 ft diameter tanks. The 10 ft tank required a core radius of 102 cm and the 11 ft tank a core radius of 95 cm for criticality. In the calculations, the fluxes were assumed to go to zero at the edge oi the graphite reflector. The fast group of the two-group calculation was broken down into 3 fast groups. The leakage out of the core and reflector for the 4 energy groups is given. (M.C.G.)

MEETING XIV -- BEVATRON RESEARCH CONFERENCE -- CHEMISTRY EXPERIMENTS

The main purpose of Chemistry Division personnel in using the Bevatron will be to learn as much as possible about nuclear reactions in the Bev energy range using the radiochemical approach. The type and extent of these experiments will depend greatly on the beam intensity. Significant results can be obtained at 10{sup 6} or 10{sup 7} protons per pulse, but it is highly desirable that this figure ultimately be raised to 10{sup 10} or greater.

Extrusion of Unclad Natural Uranium and Molybdenum-Natural Uranium Rod for TRX. Report on Experiment 7c4

Extrusion of unclad billets of both natural U and 12 wt.% Mo natural U was employed for producing unclad rods subsequently machine finished to .600 deg diameter and to random lengths which were fitted into assembly 4' long. Indications are that the extrusion of unclad natural U and its alloys is feasible within certain qualifications. (auth)

TECHNICAL REPORT ON THE EXPANDED HARSHAW TBP EXTRACTION PROCESS (open access)

TECHNICAL REPORT ON THE EXPANDED HARSHAW TBP EXTRACTION PROCESS

effect of various concentrations of tributyl phosphate upon pressing the uranyl nitrate distribution are included. An electrolytic method is suggested for separating uranium, neptanium, plutonium, aad americium traces from acid solutions. The yield is independent of anion concentration but dependent on pH. Conditions for quantitative separation of plutonium from various metallic admixtures are analyzed. The influence of iron was eliminated by the addition of oxalic acid. (tr-auth)
