Byrnes, Supervising State Parole Officer), Sacramento 14, California, dated March 27, 1951. Byrnes refers to Kirk's letter of March 23, 1951 and advises of an enclosed Postal Savings Bond belonging to Subject A-9808-A, as requested.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Price Daniel, Attorney General, The State of Texas, Austin, dated March 12, 1952. Daniel expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell and for the clipping of the letter to the Abilene-Reporter News. He requests that Carswell continue to send material concerning his race which he thinks might be helpful along with his suggestions and observations. Daniel writes in a postscript, "Wish someone would answer Mr. Hambree in the paper."

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Price Daniel, United States Senate, Washington, D. C., dated March 27, 1956. Daniel expresses his appreciation for Carswell's message of support for him in the Governor's race and for his contribution toward the expenses. Handwritten postscript by Daniel; "Sure appreciate your offer to help organize for me. Esco Walter and Morey Millerman will probably work with John Pope and French Robertson on this as before."

A letter addressed to Mr. & Mrs. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from "Jake" [J. D. Sandefer, Jr.], Breckenridge, Texas, dated March 21, 1951. Sandefer issues an invitation to attend the annual sunrise service Easter morning including breakfast at the Wooten Hotel. He notes that each year they discuss discontinuing the annual get-together, yet, continue.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Blanche [Mrs. Earl] Darden], Abilene, Texas, dated March 16. Blanche explains that she has been in the hospital unexpectedly and that Dr. Seth Cox will operate on her jaw meaning she will be off work four or five weeks. She apologizes and offers options of payment on her contract with Carswell.

A letter addressed to Rester Flower Shop, Poplarville, Mississippi from T. N. Carswell, dated March 20, 1959. Carswell advises of an attached check to cover the cost of a corsage for Miss Thelma Batson for Easter and for flowers for her home. He directs them to send his enclosed note with the flowers.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from E. M. Collier, Administrator, Hendrick Memorial Hospital dated March 24, 1956. Notification by Collier of a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Hendrick Memorial Hospital. An agenda is outlined including Dr. V. H. Shoultz to report on the radio isotope laboratory and the colbalt unit desired at Hendrick.

A letter written to Mr. Jack Ross, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact (Attention: Mrs. Maizie Toungate, Supervisor, Parole Division), Board of Pardons and Paroles, Texas, from H. M. Randall, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact, Salem, Oregon (by Robert E. Jones, Senior Parole Officer), dated March 3, 1955. The cover letter by Jones advises of several enclosures including copies of the Agreement to Return and duplicate pictures of Subject OSP 22624 to supplement the supervisory data sent previously.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from Vincent O'Leary, Director, Division of Parole Supervision, by John W. Walton, Supervisor, Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, dated March 26, 1958. Walton apologizes to Carswell for the error in their letter regarding the reporting intervals required of Subject No. Calif. 17095. In addition to reporting in person every six months he requests that Subject make a written report each month.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from Vincent O'Leary, Director, Division of Parole Supervision (by John W. Walton, Supervisor), Board of Pardons and Paroles, Texas, dated March 25, 1958. Walton refers to correspondence from the State of Oklahoma requesting information regarding Subject No. 60604' - Okla. and then, in turn, requests information from Carswell regarding Subject No. 60604' - Okla.

A letter addressed to the Director of the Texas State Dept. of Public Welfare, Austin, Texas, from L. V. Porterfield, Classification Supervisor, Oklahoma State Penitentiary, McAlister, Oklahoma, dated March 11, 1958 and is a request for information on the background and personal life of Subject 60604.

A letter addressed to Mr. H. M. Randall, Director, Board of Parole and Probation, Salem, Oregon, from Jack Ross, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact (by Vincent O'Leary, Director, Division of Parole Supervision), dated March 31, 1958. O'Leary refers to a letter from Randall requesting a report on Subject OSP 22624 and advises Randall that the volunteer parole officer in Taylor County reports that Subject's conduct has been good.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from parolee/inmate, Huntsville, Texas, dated March 25, 1954. Subject 108,345 expresses his appreciation for the encouraging letter from Carswell and describes the events of his transfer to Huntsville.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from the wife of a parolee in Coleman, Texas, dated March 22, 1954. The wife of the subject advises Carswell that this letter is in regards to the clemency case for her husband to be brought before the Board in June. She advises of her husband's plans to accept a job with Larghterdale and Strawn in Taylor County and requests that Carswell accept him as a parolee. She advises that her husband was interviewed by Rev. George Beto who made a recommendation to the Board for clemency and requests that Carswell write to the Board and send to her a copy of his letter.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Allan Shivers, Governor, Austin, Texas, dated March 11, 1953. Shivers expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell and for his ideas. He informs Carswell about the Texas Research League, a privately financed organization, its primary purpose to compile facts and figures along the lines Carswell mentioned and the work proposed relative to a restoration of proper relations between the national and state governments on tax and fiscal policies.

A letter written to Judge Thomason, from T. N. Carswell, dated March 16, 1955. Carswell expresses his high regard for Thomason complimenting what he did in the Matusow and Witt affair stating, "How refreshing it is to be a TEXAN with an R. E. Thomason as a Federal Judge!"

A letter written to Senator Price Daniel, from T. N. Carswell, dated March 15, 1956. Carswell compliments an address made by Daniel and the solution he offered to the Texas situation. He encourages Daniel to run for governor promising his support and efforts in Taylor county and the surrounding area. Carswell advises Daniel that Texas needs him in Texas for the next few years.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Lucie K. Whitehead (Mrs. L. C. W.), Raleigh, N. C., dated March 29, 1951. She advises of an enclosed check for the tax services that Carswell rendered.

A letter written to Miss Elia J. Hobbs from T. N. Carswell, dated March 16, 1954. Carswell explains the drouth and the run-down condition of her land advising that Mr. Presswood [C. W. Presswood] is reluctant to offer money for rent and offers instead that he should repair fences, clear cactus and get the place in order so it can be farmed, swapping improvments for rent.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Lucie K. Whitehead, San Antonio, Texas, dated March 14, 1955. Whitehead expresses her pleasure for the opportunity to have seen Carswell and for having settled the income tax matter for a while. She explains who Sydney Reagan is, a boy from Washington who is in San Antonio, and gives his educational and family background noting that he has held an administrative job in Washington for several years. She requests from Carswell any help that he can give regarding introducing Reagan to the Wagstaff Firm in Abilene.

Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Lannie, postmarked Dallas, Texas, March 3, 1956. Lannie inquires about Carswell's health, advises that he is doing well and is well on his way in adjusting himself to the situation noting that a letter will follow soon.

A letter written to Mrs. Whitehead from T. N. Carswell, dated March 2, 1958. Carswell acknowledges the receipt of her letter regarding her question on the amount of the tax shown on the return advising the question proved to be well founded. He apologizes for his mistake and encourages her appraisal of his work as needed, expresses his appreciation for the spirit of her letter and advises that it "but deepens an opinion I've long had of you". In a postscript to Whitehead, Carswell advises that he is working on her 1957 return and that he will forward a rough draft.
