Interview with Eugene L. Crumling, bartender and former professional ballplayer. The interview includes Crumling's personal experiences about being a professional baseball player in the U.S. during World War II. Crumling talks about his semi-pro baseball career in the late 1930s and early 1940s, the origin of his nickname, signing his first professional contract, life in the minor leagues during wartime, his draft classification as 4-F, his employment in defense-related work during the off-seasons, contrasts between life in the minors and life in the majors, individual Cardinals players, his first game and his first, and only, hit in the majors, the remainder of his minor league career, and his personal thoughts about the reserve clause, player strikes, modern-day salaries, and expansion.

Interview with Louis Cresson, a former member of the Civilian Conservation Corps from Hillside, Pennsylvania. Cresson discusses his family, life during the Great Depression, and work at CCC camps in Shawville and Renovo, Pennsylvania.

Interview with Frank Polenta, a former member of the Civilian Conservation Corps from Meadville, Pennsylvania. Polenta discusses his background and his experiences at the CCC Camp Pebble Dell--ANF No. 1 in Marienville, Pennsylvania.

Interview with William Smeltzer, a Army WWII veteran and Navy contractor from Wrightsville, Pennsylvania. Smeltzer discusses quitting high school and moving to California in 1940, experiences working at Mare and Pearl Harbor Navy Yards as a civilian contractor before and after the start of the war, the raising of the sunken USS Oklahoma (BB-37), being drafted into the Army and infantry training, assignment to the 45th Infantry Division and participating in the drive into Germany, the end of the war and demobilization, and his career afterwards. In appendix are a photo of the insignia for the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard and two photos of the capsized Oklahoma.

Interview with Larry Canfield, a veteran army nurse from Pennsylvania. This interview contains his experiences as an army nurse in Vietnam. It includes his assignment to the 93rd Evacuation Hospital, 935th Medical Detachment, Long Binh. Living conditions, morale problems, recreation, medical treatment of enemy POWs, and racial problems are discussed.

Interview with Thomas A. Chipman, who is a World War II veteran and restaurant business owner from Hill City, Kansas. In the interview, Chipman discusses his experiences as a medic and driver in the European Theatre during the war. He describes what basic training and his induction into the Army was like, and also talks a little bit about when he was sent to the Pennsylvania Military College to earn a degree in engineering. Chipman recollects when his battalion was transported to England and France in order to fight in several battles that included the Battle of the Bulge. He describes what it was like to stay in Europe, and includes details such as the attitudes toward battlefield carnage, the evacuation and transport of the dead and wounded, the capture of German prisoners-of-war, and civilian refugees. Chipman reminisces of the German surrender and his return to the United States, where he started a restaurant business career.

Interview with Paul Dillon concerning his experiences before and during his employment in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. Dillon worked at a camp in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania (Company 1381). Includes an appendix with Dillon's CCC discharge papers and a photograph of his camp.
