[City by the Water]

Photograph of Galveston. The large, dark masonry building at the upper lefthand side of the photograph is Old Red, the first building constructed for the University of Texas Medical Branch. The photograph appears to have been taken between Market and Postoffice Streets, facing east. Market is the street stretching east on the left of the photograph. Postoffice is the street to the right. The three frame buildings facing the camera, just to the south of Market Street are still standing. A dense array of buildings and streets make up the landscape; advertisements for Coca-Cola and Bill Durham Tobacco are visible on the walls of a building. On the right-hand side of the photograph a brick wall obscures part of the view.
