Caption: "Kilns at the United Brick company's new plant north of Oklahoma City daily transform about 150 tons of red shale into 55,000 bricks - enough to build quite a few new homes. Plant supervisor, J. E. Williams, 2700 NW 10, says the huge factory operates 24 hours a day, with 34 employes working three shifts. The plant has been in operation about a month now, since transfering all the manufacturing operations from the old site on NW 10. Business and sales officers are still in the old location. Dominant feature in the U-shaped factory is the largeHaprop car tunnel kiln, a 315-foot long furnace which bakes the bricks at temperatures up to 2,000 degrees. The entire operation, from the ground up, literally, is located at the new site. the Santa Fe railroad runs about 100 yards to the east of the factory. Williams says the firm was fortunate in obtaining a site where ideal Permian shale was available with a railroad nearby...............The second kiln is the giant 315-foot tunnel. Here the bricks are run through at gradually increasing temperalires, until in the center, the temperature reachers about 2,000 …

Flood Prevention Dam Failure

Water entered dam on right abutment following core trench, then went out around outlet pipe. Dam completed March 1957 and failed May 19 when water was about 0. 5 ft. above crest of emergency spillway. Core drill taking Denison samples to determine cause of failure.
