Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "The time for enjoying parks is here. When the Oklahoma sun gets hot and then hotter through the summer, those cool stretches of greenery that dot all state communities come into their own. They're about the most important spot in town when the themometer flirts with 100. Every town in Oklahoma has a park of some sort. It may be a fractional acre with some shrubs, a few trees and grass: or it may be an elaborate expanse of many acres, with a lake, swimming pool, playground equipment, picnic grounds, ball diamonds and bridle paths. But whatever its size or degree of development, it is an important factor in the civic scheme. Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "In military cemeteries around the globe the U.S. army tomorrow will re-enact scenes like this. It will be a day of tribute to army's illustrious dead of all wars. It will be the annual homage of Memorial day. This scene is the old post cemetery at Fort Sill where the first grave of record bears the date Feb. 11, 1869. The picture was made when the army rehearsed the scene earlier this week. The officer with the wreath at the grave of an unknown early-day soldier is Col. Everett C. Williams, deputy commander of The Artillery Center, Fort Sill. The color guard is from the 1st Field Artillery observation battalion, the firing squad from Company M, 38th infantry regiment. For more about this picture, about Colonel Williams and about the old cemetery, see Page 2."
