Patent for a new and improved apparatus for impregnating liquids with gases. This design "relates to apparatus for impregnating water or other suitable liquid with the fumes emanating from the consumption of a combustible composition of matter, such as sulphur, which when ignited emits a gas containing suitable medicinal qualities" (lines 14-19). It consists in "the closed reservoir for containing the liquid, having windows upon opposite walls thereof, of the transverse beam having its ends supported in said windows, the sulphur-containing vessel . . . the man-hole, the air-hole, and cocks" (lines 4-10).

Patent for a new and improved combined torch and gas-burner key. This design "relates to a device for lighting gas-burners and operating the cock of the gas-burner, and has for its object to provide a combined torch and key by means of which the gas may be lighted without the flame of the torch coming in contact with the globe surrounding the burner and the cock of the gas-burner readily taken hold of and operated" (lines 8-15).

This design "has for its object to provide a device of simple, durable, and economical construction and capable of carrying the roll taut a sufficient distance beyond the post to conveniently nail the wire thereto, and whereby any amount of slack can be taken up by repeated operation. The further object of the invention is to provide a machine which will also be able to draw together the broken ends of a wire and take up the slack between the posts" (lines 8-18).

Patent for a new and improved wheel. This design "is to obviate the . . . great difficulty . . . experienced in the construction of wheels in putting the axle-box in the hub and getting it true. . . . and [to] improve and strengthen the construction of wheels, and especially the manner of securing the spokes in the hubs" (lines 9-17).

Patent for new and useful improvements to printing or stamping machines.

Patent for a new and improved post-hole auger. This design consists in "the shank forked and continued in the arms, the latter having elbows at their lower ends, in combination with the ring-shaped band having a sharp lower edge and bolts passing through said bands and arms and through said elbows and arms" (lines 91-97).

Patent for a new and improved post-auger. This design "is to improve that class of post-augers whose blades are made adjustable so as to make large or small holes. They have ordinarily been adjusted by means of a bolt, nut, and slot in the blade; but the blades work out of correspondence with each other, the nuts becoming more or less loosened. [This design] dispense[s] with bolt, nut, and slot" (lines 15-23).

Patent for a new and improved baling press. This design consists in "the combination of the frame, the baling-chamber at the front end of the same, the plunger, the toggle-links connecting said plunger with a cross-piece at the rear end of the frame, a base extending laterally from the frame, a horizontal crank mounted pivotally upon said base, the pitman connecting said crank with the connecting-point of the toggle-links, said pitman consisting of end pieces connected by a bridge-piece lying in a lower plane than the said end-pieces, and an operating-sweep" (lines 13-24).

Patent for a new and improved gate. This design consists in "a central post, the latch-posts arranged at equal distances on opposite sides of the central post and provided with suitable catches, the latches pivoted at their inner ends to the center post and adapted to engage the said catches, the operating-bar affixed at its center to the upper end of the center post and at right angles to the gate, the loop connected at its free ends, respectively, to the latches, and the operating-cords running over guide-pulleys . . . and connected at their ends to the closed upper end of the loop" (lines 1-13).

Patent for a new and improved gate. This design consists in "the post having projecting pins or studs combined with the gate having the hinges composed of a pair of plates bolted together, the said plates being swelled outward to provide collars, which are provided with cams" (lines 66-71).

Patent for "a machine of this character which will effectively do its work,which will be of great capacity, easy to manipulate, and positive in its desired operation" (lines 11-14).

Patent for a new and improved rack-and-pinion mechanism. This design "relates to improvements on rack-and-pinion mechanism to dispense with the connecting-rod on steam-engines, whereby a more equal, constant motive power at any point of the piston-stroke, and no dead or weak points of the same, will be obtained" (lines 9-14).

Patent for a new means of controlling the waters. This design "is to remove or prevent the formation of sand-bars at the mouths of harbors elsewhere, calculated to obstruct navigation; also, to prevent the overflow of navigable rivers and the breaking of levees or destruction of jetties. [The] invention consists in a novel means of accomplishing these and other like ends by mechanical forces applied to increase the natural current or outflow of the navigable water toward its outlet or the ocean through the instrumentality of suitably located and anchored vessels provided with propelling devices" (lines 8-21).

Patent for novel improvements in the construction or production of cotton or corn planters.

This design consists in "the combination, with the side bars of the main frame, the plow-standard connecting the front ends thereof, and the covering board connecting the rear ends of the side bars, of the handles secured to the side bars near the front end of the machine, the rectangularly-bent brace-bar secured to the side bars and to the handles, and the centrally-bent brace-bar secured to the side bars and the brace-bar" (lines 86-95).

Patent for a new and improved saw-set. This design "is to set saw-teeth in a new and efficient manner without the use of a lever" (lines 14-16). To this end, it "consist[s] of the frame having the arms, blade-bearings, setting-recess, and the three screws" (lines 48-50).

Patent for a new and improved hand-truck. This design consists in "the combination, with the sections . . . arranged parallel to each other and adapted to have a combined longitudinal and lateral motion with reference to each other . . . rollers located upon the under side of said sections, and the spurs on the upper faces at each end, of the braces . . . located, respectively, upon the lower and upper faces of the device and diagonally across the same, and pivoted at each end to said sections . . . the openings provided on said sections, and the dowels on said sections" (lines 68-80).
