She expresses her appreciation to Carswell for his assistance and advises him that nothing was said by California regarding the tools belonging to subject. Byrnes refers to Kirk's letter of March 23, 1951 and advises of an enclosed Postal Savings Bond belonging to Subject A-9808-A, as requested.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Taylor County, Texas, Parole Board, Abilene, Texas, from Adult Authority by E. A. Burkhart, Executive Secretary, Sacramento 14, California, dated July 11, 1951. Burkhart replies to Carswell regarding the two requests for pardon informing him, that under California law, both subjects are on life paroles, therefore, the Authority cannot refix their sentences to terminate their paroles. Subjects must apply through the Governor's office.

Welsh replies to a request made by Carswell and advises of his enclosing two sets of forms to be used when applying for executive clemency.

A letter written to T. N. Carswell from Ruby Conaway McIntosh, Denver, Colorado. McIntosh advises Carswell that she read of his work in the Abilene Reporter and has enclosed a clipping about a friend doing similar rehabilitation for the state of Colorado. The enclosure includes an article printed by the Denver Post dated October 29, 1951 titled "Let Your Heart Fill Your Chest -- Parolees Get Help."

A form letter from George Mahon, dated May 3, 1951. Mahon discourses on the MacArthur controversy and advises that Acheson should have resigned many months ago. He speaks of his concern for the country stating that he hopes they can get their feet on the ground as a nation and unify efforts toward building up the national defense program and towards preventing World War III. Mahon affirms his need for the prayers and advice of the people during these trying days. P. S. "As to our spending policies, we must avoid exhausting ourselves."

Shivers expresses his appreciation for the "kind expression of interest" by Carswell in Shiver's future public service, to have this evidence of support of the substantial citizenship of this State. He congratulates Carswell on the splendid service he is rendering the State and the men under his supervision as Chairman of the Volunteer Parole Board in Abilene.
