North Texas State University has recently received a planning grant from the Getty Center for Education in the Arts, an operating program of the J. Paul Getty Trust, to plan for the establishment of North Texas Regional Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts "North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts,". Hurley writes that they appreciated Wright's support in obtaining the planning grant, and would like to invite Wright to be a guest for lunch and an executive briefing on the project at the Pinnacle Club, Interfirst Bank Building, June 17, 1987.

A memo from Vicki Rosenberg, program officer, the Getty Center for Education in the Arts, to the Regional Institute Directors, Sheila Brown, Maggie DiBlasio, Jack Davis, Anne Lindsey, Jessie Lovano-Kerr, Nancy MacGregor, Bill McCarter, Tom McMullen and Nancy Roucher. The memo is in regards to the trustees of the J. Paul Getty approving the Center's fiscal year 1990 budget which begins on July 1, 1989. Also, Rosenberg is planning a fall seminar on student assessment for two days during the week of October, 1989 and requests they keep their schedule open. cc'd on the memo, Stephen M. A letter from Leilani Lattin Duke, Director of the Getty Center for Education in the Arts, to Jack Davis, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. The letter is in regards to prior correspondence between Davis and Duke from a letter on May 22, and which involved a recommendation that the Center consider providing a session at the next NAEA convention on the progress of the Regional institutes. Duke agrees that the timing is right and the program is far along that they can provide substantive report on what they are learning, what problems continue to perplex them and what is working. Duke and Vicki Rosenberg agreed to talk about the idea after her return at the end of June.

An evaluation report submitted to the Getty Center for Education in the Arts by Ralph Hoepfner, Ph.D on June 1, 1991. The report is titled "The Status of DBAE Programs in School Districts Participating in the Getty Institute For Educators on the Visual Arts." The report details the decreased support in DBAE from the Getty Institute after two years of working together with twenty-one districts. The report attempts, as stated, to assess the extent, nature and causes of maintenance or decay of those programs.

Alford has given Hendrick an outlined suggestion for improving the elementary art program, based on research even the best staff development programs do not effect change unless there is follow up and continuous support, therefore their plans call for the addition of certified art teachers. Enclosed with the letter are abstracts about the improving the program. At the bottom of the cover page a scribbled note reads, "Jack, this is the packet that has been written for the board, Lynda."

William McCarter, Co-director at North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, about Hanson's developments on their elementary art curriculum. Hanson has developed a unit that vertically slice through the grades, all organized by a big idea. They started with a multi-faceted big idea that would be addressed as components at various grade levels. They continue to describe their confusion about what The Getty Center for Education in Arts purpose for having them curriculum writing, Hanson ends the letter hoping McCarter and Hanson meet again at some point.
