The following document provides information on the physical and chemical impacts to climate change in the Pacific Islands region. The changes observed are the rise in ocean temperatures, reduced nutrients in the euphotic zone, an increase in ocean acidity, a rise in seal level, changes in the ocean currents, and changes in weather patterns and extreme weather events.

The following document is a survey designed to elicit information of utility to resource managers of Hawaiian recreational saltwater fisheries. The survey includes information on angler participation, perspectives on the marine environment, preferences for fisheries management, and angler demographics.

From introduction: This report describes a subset of the results from a socio-cultural study of fishermen in the Hawaii-based longline fleet. The broader study, conducted in 2003-2004, was designed to compile a social profile of the longline fishing industry of Hawaii and provide information about its participants to decision makers.

From abstract: This report was produced in response to a petition received from the Center for Biological Diversity on September 14, 2012, to list eight species of pomacentrid reef fish as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and to designate critical habitat for these species concurrent with the listings...This report summarizes the best available scientific and commercial information on the orange clownfish, and presents an evaluation of the species' status and extinction risk.

Report that gathers and analyzes environmental, habitat, biological, and fishery data from diverse sources. These data help identify information gaps, such as, near-shore habitat data, biomass and abundance data of invertebrate species, chlorophyll-a data at different depths and certain life history parameters for invertebrates and fish.

From introduction: the present paper provides a summary of injury determinations for cetaceans in and around the Hawaiian EEZ reported injured by human causes to the PIR-MMRN and HIERN during 2007-2012... This paper also summarizes reports from previous years of cetaceans other than humpback whales injured by human causes for the purpose of obtaining additional qualitative information on the sources of injuries and the species involved. The following manuscript describes the current Hawaii Marine Recreational Fishing Survey sampling and estimation process for recreational fishing surveys under the NOAA Fisheries Marine Recreational Information Program and presents the catch-and-effort estimates using pelagic species as an example.

This report produces the results of a workshop held by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). This workshop was meant to review information to determine if the current NMFS' criteria should be modified, objectives including the review of the current NMFS' criteria for sea turtle post-release mortality estimates; to identify, review, and assess relevant research conducted after the 2004 expert workshop; and to discuss the potential effects of hook design and size on injury and mortality.

The purposes of the research behind this report were to develop a better understanding of the spearfish fishery and community; identify key players and organizations associated with the fishery; provide information to assist the State of Hawaii and the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council in making decisions based on increased understanding of the ways people are socioeconomically affected by fishery policies; document the perspectives/concerns of local spearfishermen and resources users; and contribute to the development and refinement of the fishing community profiles for Hawaii in response to The Magnuson-Stevens Act, National Standard 8.

The following report presents the results of a workshop on the topic of estimating total and natural mortality rates in data-limited stock assessment situations. The workshop was held by the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) and the Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFSC).

The following document describes reported instances of sea turtle bycatch and research projects with the objective on how to reduce longline-turtle interactions and the mortality caused by such encounters.

From abstract: This report presents findings from the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) cost-earnings study of the Hawaii-based longline fishery fleet which primarily targets bigeye tuna and swordfish...This report also compares 2012 results with the previous cost-earnings studies of the Hawaii longline fleet that examines the economic profiles of the fleet for 2000 and 2005 operations.

The following report presents reports of interactions between the cetaceans with Hawaii and American Samoa longline fisheries. Compiled here are injury and death reports concerning the dolphin as a summary of the mortality rates and injury severity observed during interactions.

The following document presents the result of a project aimed at improving the hydrodynamics of the volumetric array design for towing at faster speeds of 10 knots from large research vessels. The document explains the theory behind the design considerations for each prototype presented, sea trial results and subsequent modifications, and discuss improvements for future designs.

The following document is a compilation of reports of marine mammal interactions with the Hawaii and American Samoa longline fisheries during 2009-2013, including the assessments of the number of marine mammal deaths, serious injuries, and non-serious injuries by fishery, species, and management areas.

This report documents a series of steps taken at the National Marine Fisheries Service, Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center in response to the Order issued by Chief U.S. District Court Judge David Alan Ezra, District of Hawaii, in the case of CMC et al. versus NMFS et al.; CIVIL BO. 99-00152; dated November 23, 1999, to complete an analysis of the temporal and spatial distribution of interactions between Hawaii-based longline vessels and sea turtles to determine time and area closures that would provide the greatest benefit to the turtles.

Report on the status of bumphead parrotfish in relation to their status in accordance to the Endangered Species Act. The Team finds that there is a low plausibility of bumphead parrotfish being driven to extinction.
