The purpose of the study was to determine the various levels on which the Progressive Education Association summer workshops have been conducted and to determine what fields of subject matter have been considered. In other words, an effort was made to determine how many of the workshops were designed for college or university teachers, secondary school teachers, elementary school teachers, administrators, or special groups, and what subject matter was considered for each group.

It is the purpose of this study to make an examination of critical comment on humanistic philosophy, and, thereby, get a response that will answer some of the questions which arise in the minds of those who are made conscious of intellectual wonder or curiosity within themselves.

The high school research paper is a task which consumes instructional time, requires considerable student effort, and places a high demand on school library resources. Little research has been conducted on how students accomplish this task. Academic task research indicates that in classrooms, tasks are defined by students in terms of (a) the nature of the products the teacher will accept and (b) the operations allowed and the resources available. Here the product is the research paper; the resources available include those found in the school library. The purpose of this study was to determine what strategies students use to perform the library-related task.

The problem in this study has been to analyze the vocabulary needs in the field of Library Service and to develop a professional tool, including an English-French glossary of approximately fifteen hundred terms concerning the making, the acquisition, and the organization of books as related to Library Service.

The purpose of this study is to determine the adequacy of the library service rendered to the people of Burnet County, Texas.

The problem selected for the study in the recent research project was to determine the effectiveness of the Sour Lake, Texas, High School library program as it was reflected through the reading experiences of the thirty-one first-year high school pupils for the year 1945-1946. These reading experiences were analyzed on the basis of the number and the classifications of the books charged from the library by the pupils for use in the various academic subjects. For the purposes of the study, the books were grouped in accordance with the arrangement of the Dewey Decimal System of classification, which is the system used by the school librarian in classifying and cataloging all library materials. Although the principal phase of the investigation involved a study of the books circulated, an analysis was made also of the books and other library materials used for factual information and for special classroom assignments.

The purpose of the study is to determine the library needs of the elementary-grade children of the Willow View School and to develop an activity program to meet their needs.

"In order to determine the extent to which the Denton County Free Library is meeting the needs of the elementary school children for recreational reading, an analysis was made of the reading interests of the elementary-school children of twelve common school districts of Denton County, Texas. The ages of these children ranged from nine to fourteen years. A second analysis was made by checking various acceptable authors in the field of children's reading interests as read by the children in this group and age level. This information was secured by having each child in the schools check the items listed in a school survey sheet. This information was tabulated and the results are shown in tables presented in Chapter III. A third analysis was made of library material found in the reading lists that were supplied by the county; and lastly, a comparison was made of the results of the last analysis with the two preceding ones." -- leaf 3

The problem in this study is to evaluate a library service program designed to increase recreational reading among elementary school age children.

The writer's purpose in this study has been to make a thorough investigation of the Newbery Medal books to determine if they represent the best literature suitable for children's reading that has been published since 1922, and to investigate carefully the group as a whole to see if the books possess those rare qualities and characteristics which, deservedly, would set them apart from the ordinary type of books usually designated as suitable for children's reading.

The purpose of this study is twofold: first, to determine whether the Newbery Medal Books under consideration meet the commonly accepted requirements of children's literature; and second, if they do not, to determine wherein they differ from acceptable criteria.

It is the purpose of this work to compile and organize available material dealing with children's magazines published in the nineteenth century in America, and present it in a usable form.

This study has four main purposes: 1. To determine whether there is a preference for certain types of stories. 2. To find whether boys prefer one type story and girls another. 3. To determine whether the physical make-up or format of the book has any influence on the selection of books. 4. To find how these interests are related to classroom work.

The purpose of the study is to make an investigation into the practices and procedures recommended and employed in making book reports in the public schools. The aim is to determine also what methods are most recommended and what practices are followed in secondary school English classes. Special attention is given to the book reporting program in the Frisco High School. Attention is given to the needs for creating a taste for good reading, the ability to interpret what is read, and to the values accruing to the intelligent reader. The reports of reading, as given by a class of secondary pupils, are analyzed to determine the methods most advisable for creating these interests and abilities.
